President Joe Biden ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff to remember the life of Queen Elizabeth II, who died Thursday. She was 96.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine also ordered flags lowered.
"In accordance with the orders issued by the President of the United States of America and in remembrance of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Governor DeWine has ordered that the flags of the United States and the State of Ohio be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the State of Ohio until sunset on the day of interment," a statement from the governor's office said.

Well it’s official up here in Canada your neighbours. Huge Canadian flag flying half staff in front of the local Walmart. So there’s a bit of cross border respect I suppose. Almost all flags up here are at half staff and I think they will remain that way until the funeral is over next monday.
Since the British monarch is Canada’s head of state, I would assume that Canadian flags would be at half-mast.

I fly a Bennington flag every day. Under it I have flown the Gadsden flag, the Moultrie flag, Washington’s Cruisers, and a Pine Tree flag.
I’ve given some thought to having a flag for that day we pray God never comes. I’ve considered a blacked-out Stars and Stripes, plain black, a skull and crossbones, but I’ve settled on the stretched version of the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia.
Any of my male ancestors who were here in 1861 wore the blue suit. But if the day ever comes to reveal that General Lee was right after all, then up she goes.

It’s showing their allegiance is not to the USA.
Our flags should not be at half-mast to mourn the loss of another country’s monarch.
I was under the impression that it is considered polite to stand in respectful silence for another country’s national anthem, without joining in the singing.
I have no problem with Americans who don’t bow or curtsy to the Monarch - we’re Americans, and we bend the knee to no one but our God (if we have one.)
But it surprises me that so many people on this forum, who love to proudly declare and display their patriotism, don’t understand that people in other countries possess patriotism, too - and it means just as much to them.
What country has been a greater ally to us than the UK? I have no problem with having flags at half-mast out of respect for them. And I wouldn’t have a problem with standing for ‘God Save the King’, out of respect, either. I wouldn’t put my hand over my heart (but hardly anybody here seems to do that anymore, anyway, do they?)
I remember that the Queen had our anthem played after 9-11. We can at least be equally respectful of them.
And I believe also out of respect for the special relationship we have with the UK. As I recall shortly after 9/11 the Queen ordered her band to play The Star Spangled Banner during the changing of the guard to honor those who had died, which was unprecedented — broke a 600 year tradition.
So I feel that while definitely outside established norms, it is a great gesture of goodwill between our countries.
Presumably, they have seen fit to do this for the Queen considering she broke protocol on 9-11 and asked her guardsmen to play ‘Star Spangled Banner’ in solidarity.
Its not 1776 any more and she wasn’t George III. I can’t imagine the UK not doing the same if a US president died in office or a significant US national tragedy like 9-11 happened.

Thank you. I get that republicanism is a core part of the American identity but I don’t understand why some people seem to think they are not being patriotic if they aren’t making a point of insulting or snubbing the institution of an ally just because it is different to what the people of the US choose to have as their form of government.

As the decades go by, seeing "with my own eyes"...I find myself reassessing whether or not(with events that have taken place since)"WE" actually won ANYTHING since...1776.

I doubt it. He would declare a national holiday and celebration.
Yes. I personally would find it boorish to remain seated when their anthem is played. Standing isn’t a symbol of submission or fealty; it’s just simple, human respect - especially if you are in a ‘Church of ENGLAND’.
Do they do it in England when an American President dies? Doubtful.

What country has been a greater ally? What acts of being an ally have they done for us? They have been takers, and always trying to torpedo us. 30 years after the revolutionary war they attacked us again. Then during the Civil War they sided with the south and tried to split us up. They use subterfuge to take over our banking system with the federal reserve. They threatened to sink our neutral shipping if it was going to Germany and wailed unmercifully about Germans sinking ships going to England. They got us into World War I when we had no interest in it. They demanded American soldiers be placed under the incompetent leadership of British generals piecemeal. Thank God blackjack Pershing refused. After the war they regarded us as a future enemy in the Washington naval treaty and insisted we not have as powerful of a navy as they did. They prolonged World War II by pushing us to help them regain British colonies in the Mediterranean . They tried to get Eisenhower to help them recover the Suez canal in the 50s. The British empire is the genesis of all of the problems in Kuwait and Iraq. They pay Isis members pensions. They spy on us constantly, and used their spy agencies to try to frame Trump as a Russian spy and a pervert. That sure is an interesting kind of “ally”.
