And after that no Monarch was stupid enough to tell Parliament to take a hike the way Charles the First did so it was all right.

Alternating long and short reigns by generation. Shortest reign in Elizabeth’s half of the the alternation was 26 years by her grandfather. Longest reign in Charles’ half of the alternation was 11 years by his grandfather although Victoria’s uncles collectively reigned 17 years.
Excellently stated. Charles II just happened to be monarch during one of the richest periods of scientific discovery. The Protestant nations were eclipsing the Catholic nations with their pursuit of the truth over dogma. This was the time of Newton, Kepler where observations were made of our earth, and those making it, were free from house arrest or being burned at the stake as a heretic.
Shame that couldn’t replace Harry and Andrew on that list with Ann and Edward, Charles’ level headed siblings.
