Like my uncle who truly believed Billy the Kid was a fine young persecuted by the evil Marshall Pat Garrett. Bonney was psychopath and Garrett a troubled man with mental issues and a part of the (even for the Gilded Age) corrupt Lincoln County and N M Territory political establishment.
The comic version history is satisfying to those who find thinking painful objectivity shows that certain features of human conduct greed (yes settlers were often remarkably greedy and contemptible human beings), pride, savagery, stupidity and hubris is a common thread from the cave man to today.
