NYC’s 9/11 Tribute Museum to close: ‘It’s a huge loss’

Lower Manhattan’s 9/11 Tribute Museum — a nearly 30,000-square-foot space located three blocks from the World Trade Center site — will shut its doors Wednesday afternoon, just weeks shy of the 21st anniversary of the terror attacks.

The Greenwich Street museum, which opened in 2006 nearby on Liberty Street, has struggled to stay afloat since the 2020 onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Two-thirds of our income revenue annually comes from our earned income from admissions,” Jennifer Adams-Webb, co-founder of the museum and the CEO of the September 11th Families’ Association, told The Post. “We were completely closed for six months in 2020. We had been averaging 300,000 visitors a year … and last year we had a total of 26,000 visitors, so it completely annihilated our earned income.”

A destination for education and for community support among survivors and family members of those who died on 9/11, the museum moved to its 92 Greenwich St. location in 2017. The first six months of 2022 saw roughly the same number of visitors as the entirety of 2021, but outstanding capital debt combined with still-low visitation required a difficult decision to be reached.

This appears to be a different museum, that's closing, from the huge one at the site of the twin towers footprints, where you actually go into the lower spaces of what was the WTC.

Just seeking to clarify things ...

You appear to be correct. I jumped to the conclusion that this was the same museum I visited at Ground Zero but apparently the one that is closing is a much smaller one (that I have never been to).

The one I went to actually takes you underground to see the underpinnings of the WTC complex. That was very eerie, walking through all of that and seeing some of the actual wreckage.

Muslims will buy it and turn it into a Mosque.

Nobody wants to visit NYC, whether it’s DeBlasio or this new punk mayor neither has controlled crime and has mismanaged the entire covid restrictions.

Blame your mayor, they are ruining the big apple and turning it into the rotten apple.

The 9/11 Museum had a strong public appeal until it was FORCED to close during COVID-19 shutdowns.
I heard on the radio this morning that 2/3 of their revenue comes from admission ticket sales. They went from over 300K visitors in 2019 to 21K visitors in 2020/21. The fact that the city/state of NY forced them to close is the main reason they are short of funds.

I am also sure that all of NYC tourist revenues are down over the last two years. We Freepers have all discussed the fact that none of us want to go to NYC anymore. We tend to more conservative than the general population, but most people(even liberals)do not want to go to NYC on vacation anymore.

For example, I have attended the Westminster Kennel Club show multiple times. For decades it was held at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan. In 2021 it was held at the Lyndhurst Mansion in Terrytown, NY. This is about 30 miles north of NYC in Westchester County. An expensive suburb. The show was supposed to return to Manhattan in 2022. When the WKC polled people, they overwhelmingly voted to keep the show in Terrytown instead of Manhattan. There are a lot of liberals/homosexuals involved in dog showing. A much higher percentage than the normal public. Even they do not want to go to NYC anymore.

Trump should announce a major donation along with Gullianni.
Then ask for patriots to also contribute.
It would be funded within one day.

It would also drive the MSM and Dem/communist liberals crazy.

I live in Jacksonville, NC, which is the home of the Second Division of the USMC. We have also have a steel beam in front of the memorial where the 9/11 remembrance ceremony is held every year.

I’ve never been in there but i do know Soros originally wanted to have an area in the museum “highlighting” the abuse of native Americans. That was immediately struck down

I knew a kid (a friend of my son with my first wife) who overslept and missed his LA flight. He was supposed to sign a contract with the NHL Kings, but he instead joined the military.

Yep last time I was in Manhattan was under Rudy. Then I took my hubby who had never been to NYC (although born and raised in upstate) to one of the last games at the old Yankee stadium. He couldn’t believe the traffic!

We don’t intend to set foot downstate until if and when it is back under GOP control at the very least.

NYC was still good when Bloomberg was mayor. He instituted the “Stop and Frisk” policing policy that all the criminals hated.
They and the stupid liberals hated it because it WORKED. It took criminals and a lot of illegal handguns off the street. He added even more NYPD officers on the street.

For such a large city, it was very safe. Then they elected a stupid Dem/Liberal Commie mayor. Now, it is best to avoid NYC.

They are hell bent to destroy any respect for our nation.

I’m certain this will be celebrated in Democrat circles.

Bloomberg did a few good things, but his big mistake was trying to appease leftards and go anti America first.
