New York City store locks up Spam in plastic case amid crime spike
Fox News ^ | July 30, 2022 | Andrew Mark Miller

The one-two punch of inflation and rising crime has caused at least one New York City store to lock up its inventory of Spam in a plastic case.

Shoppers, store employees, and social media users expressed disbelief after discovering the $3.99 canned meat product out of reach behind lock and key at a Duane Reade inside New York City’s Port Authority bus depot, the New York Post reported.

"I’ve never seen that before!" one cashier laughed while removing the Spam from its plastic anti-theft covering.

"Some of these things are pretty ridiculous," said Jenny Kenny, a 43-year-old visiting town from Kentucky who says she was aware of the crime spike in the city but still couldn’t believe there were "so many" items in boxes.

Other shoppers wondered why Spam, along with $1.89 cans of Starkist tuna, were locked up while more expensive products like $5.49 cans of Amy’s soup were not.

"To put Spam in a cage is stupid — and kind of insulting to the customers that would buy it," 46-year-old shopper Dennis Snow said.

Crime in New York City is up this year in six of seven major categories and the New York Post reported that petty larceny complaints are up 52% in the precinct where the Port Authority is located compared to last year.

SPAM is one of the only food products that:
A- Has almost no expiration date
B- Requires no refrigeration or special storage conditions
C- Can also be used as a weapon if thrown accurately

Fox News Neanderthals take note.

Get ready for more of this useless information (AKA Spam) from Fox News now that they've joined the ranks of other news dimwits like Yahoo.

They've officially banned a ratings goldmine based on hate and hate alone.

Stay tuned for more bread a circuses dished out by Tucker, the fighter of liberal rot...That's working about as well as abandoning a prosperous goldmine because you hate gold.

The "liberal rot" is being washed away every time Tucker comes on...in case you haven't noticed < /sarcasm>.

...God knows I am probably nuts, but I do really like Spam....

Almost everybody does, even if they won't admit it. Fried spam with cheese on a grilled cheese (& Spam) sandwich is very tasty.

“I do not consider Spam to be food.”

I didn’t either, until I hadn’t had enough to eat for a long time. I keep dozens of cans in my supplies. Also Campbell’s Pork’n Beans. FRegards, FRiend.

I would buy a can of spam for twenty dollars if that is what it took.   I would demand you pay me twenty dollars to take a can of Amy's soup off your hands (then I would pour it into a potted plant when you turned away).

I developed a liking for split pea soup with ham bits in the same way,

I buy store brand “spam” mostly because it is usually a dollar cheaper.

If meat gets any more expensive, we will see predatory cannibalism.

I’ve never liked Spam-my mom didn’t buy it when I was a kid, and I’ve never bought it, either-and I’m an organic food type from a family of the same-no processed food-fresh only, including meat-I know there are people who just love that stuff, but the taste and texture is icky to me-maybe it is a live-in-BFE thing, but Spam is short for Sh** posing as meat...

Cube Spam to match a can of chunk pineapple.

Skewer alternating the pineapple and ham.

Slather in BBQ sauce.

Grill for about 15 minutes at 250.

Serve on homemade tortillas with a good quality shredded cheese.

You are welcome.

Split pea-or lentil-soup with bits of ham is really good nutrition-if made fresh-not the processed stuff in cans-I make it in the Winter from scratch-dried organic split peas or lentils, ham from the butcher shop, fresh sliced onion and home-grown herbs...

It’s happening at my local grocery store as well in SoCal (this is in a so-called nice area) - toothpaste, laundry detergent, shaving cream - all locked up behind plexiglass. Batteries have been locked up for years. Store hours have been shortened as well.

Every time I go, the number of locked up items grows and grows.

Of course, in California you can walk out with $950 worth of merchandise per day and no one will stop you.

Entire aisles in San Francisco grocery stores are behind locked plexiglass now.
