Argentina’s Government Collapsing, People Refuse to Work Amid Major Subsidy Cuts Only 43 percent of adults have a job, as inflation soars above 60 percent

Protests have erupted in Buenos Aires over the past 90 days and continue to build inside the capital as residents battle with their center-left government over sizeable amendments to social programs.

Cuts to subsidies in the energy sector based on household income already began in June.

Other subsidies, including the country’s notorious welfare program, are also on the chopping block, triggering thousands of angry residents to take to the streets.

State-sponsored aid for civilians has soared in the past 20 years, leaving 22 million Argentinians dependent on some form of government assistance. However, for the 1.2 million members dependent on the social program Empower Work, which is an income subsidy that provides a living wage for an indefinite period of time, working a regular job is out of the question.

“The government expects us to work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the same amount of money,” an outraged female Buenos Aires resident and piquetero lamented to reporters during a live news broadcast.

When asked where how she’d been earning income for her household, the woman replied, “the government.”

Another protester, an adult male, also decried the proposed welfare program changes telling local reporters, “Cristina [Kirchner] told us we have to go to work instead of receiving social benefits. Going to work, that’s the policy of a right winger.”

The country that gave the world Che Guevara and Bergoglio. Not a great track record.

I think the GOP is trying to throw the midterms so they can blame it on Trump.

No sympathy. They kept electing and re-electing those people.

I hate to bring it up, but people here in the US are doing pretty much the same thing. And it appears they are doing the same thing in Canada as well.

Exactly. Kirchner and her late husband are/were both Peronistas. Christina fancies herself as Eva and is as dirty as they come. Her transportation infrastructure scheme put millions in her own pocket. Argentina could be better than America were it not for the deep rooted corruption and the younger generation that has been indoctrinated to the point they refuse to work but believe the government should support them. It is a glimpse into our future if we continue on our current path

22 million in Argentina dependent upon government handouts....

Gee, they’ll feel right at home as they migrate to the USA and sign up for welfare free housing, medical and surgical care and Dem voting.

You’re more optimistic than I am. I believe TPTB have the perfect storm in motion already and will only accelerate their plans whether the GOP wins or not. I give it one year at best.

If prior elections haven't clued you in, maybe 2020 was a little hint that just maybe communist types don't win by real live votes here or there or anywhere...

John Adams said our constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. Our government has become a beast and beasts don’t simply decide to live on less, but want to grow and devour what they can.

This is the inevitable endgame of socialism. Lazy humans who were lulled into accepting free stuff become so dependent, just like a drug addict, they lash out when their drug of free money is taken away.

Eighteen months? I would amend that to 6 months as we roll down the hill faster and faster.
By this coming winter and right before the election they will crash everything so they are able to cancel the election.

I asked an Argentinian guy on another forum how his country was doing since the last collapse. He said Argentina if f-ed up, has always been f-ed up and always will be.
