MARIPOSA, Calif. — Nearly 3,000 firefighters and first responders have flooded the Sierra foothills of Mariposa County battling the explosive Oak fire, but it’s the guys in camouflage fatigues and surplus war vehicles that have most alarmed some evacuees and monitors of extremist groups.

As fire crews made headway Tuesday against a blaze that has roared through 18,000 acres, destroyed 25 homes and forced thousands to flee their homes, the presence of a self-described militia whose members handed out food and offered help to evacuees has raised concerns among some.

“It puts these groups in a positive light and extends to them a type of de-facto authority that they really don’t have under the law, which poses significant issues,” said Brian Levin, director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at Cal State San Bernardino. “When you have a system that allows unregulated extremists to cosplay at times of disaster, you get, well, unqualified extremists cosplaying at times of disaster.”

Hey Brian get a real job. You are a worthless parasite feeding at the public trough teaching a nonsensical college course. Hurry home so you can sit in your jammies on the couch and watch Oprah. The real men are out getting the job done.

Sounds like it's all good.

Wow. How far we’ve fallen as a society. A group decides to hand out food and water to help people displaced by fire, and all the public can say is they don’t like that they’re militia? Unreal.

And you wonder why tuition has gone up so much in the Cal State system?

Leave no stone unturned when trashing a group for doing a
great job for the community.

No, frame them as a threat.

Good freaking grief!

It's OK to have an authoritarian society which requires uniformed police in the schools and universities that are company towns with police unaccountable to their "voters", but a bunch of guys make a fashion statement by wearing cammies to hand out free food and water to their neighbors, and they must be the fascists.

“Yet some residents found their presence unsettling.

“The last thing I’m going to do is take a free tri-tip sandwich from a right-wing extremist group,” a woman, who declined to be identified citing fear of provoking the group, told the Mercury News.”

Then go get a sandwich from the local ANTIFA branch

This article, just wow.
So handing out free food and water is bad because of what people assume these people stand for? How is that different than Democrats handing out food and water at polling places? It is also interesting, the first group that came to my mind was the Civil Air Patrol. Uniforms, showing up at disaster scenes, . . .

Wow. So people whose houses are burning are worried about people in camo handing out food and water? Or is it that one guy who claims to be director of a anti-hate program at a university? If anyone is hating here, it’s that Brian guy.

Far left lunatic no one ever heard of, from a group no one ever heard of, that the newspaper finds to give an inflammatory quote.

Yeah right. They quote one anonymous woman evacuee and they make it sound like there’s a bunch of them feeling this way. All of the “alarm” is on the part of the media and so-called “activists”.

Don’t know how it is in California, but Texas has a state militia that is part of the state government. Despite the behind-the-back derision they sometimes receive, the folks in it that I know take it seriously, want to do a good job for the citizens of Texas and their volunteer compatriots, and glad to be a part of it. Their training may not be as rigorous as full-time organizations, but they do get called up for natural disasters and even to comb border properties for the dead and left-for-dead when a migrant wave passes through an area. Some are former military or are preparing for joining one of the services.

Stories like this portray genuine state militias as yahoos and, IMHO, they are no such thing. They work as teammates and are a legitimate resource for the agencies that call upon them. They have a realistic understanding of their capabilities but strive to perform above expectations.

They had four communists write this filth. If that was BLM, they would be featured every hour and interviewed. I hate these people.
