She testified to acts by investigators that are contrary to Russian law and regulations. Under Russian law she should have been:
Informed of her rights
Told what she was being investigated for
Given pro bono legal representation immediately if asked for (which she did apparently and which she would have known of had they informed her of her rights)
Translation services that translated the entirety of what was being asked of her or told to her.
A phone call within three hours to a Russian number (but only in Russian and she doesn’t speak Russian)
The right not to sign the report they pressured her to sign which she didn’t know she could refuse because they didn’t inform her of her rights.

On paper the process meets international standards. In practice, of course, they do what they want to. The defense is highlighting how the pretrial detention process did not follow Russian law which will aid in a potential prisoner swap.

Her lawer is using the recently sick argument and the doctor’s note as other mitigating circumstances.

She’s being used for a prisoner swap but she brought this on herself and her actions should merit consequences. Unfortunately, she will probably be freed much sooner than her eventual sentence would indicate.
