Republican Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson expressed his willingness for a “conversation” on raising the minimum age to purchase a semiautomatic rifle from 18 to 21 and “AR-15-style weapons” amid fresh talks on gun reform following a deadly mass shooting in Texas last week.

Hutchinson told CNN’s John Berman on Tuesday that he supported an ongoing bipartisan dialogue between a group of U.S. senators to potentially draft new gun control legislation. Hutchinson said one area the bipartisan congressional group should look at is “the AR-15-style weapons,” and whether the minimum age to purchase one should be raised.

Raise the voting age to 21.

The Supreme Court struck down California’s age restrictions, didn’t they?

How about raising the age of:

Voting
The Draft
Smoking
Drinking
Age of consent
Making binding contracts

The list is unlimited.

Booze is 21. They got us over the barrel on this one. Deal with it.

21 to vote. 18 if you’re active duty military. Bingo.

That RINO’s political career will be over in about 6 months. Arkansas has a solid legislature so no additional gun grabbing will get through it.

If they raise the voting age to 25, maybe, but it would unconstitutional as the 2nd Amendment protects 18+ to properly arm up to fight the federal government in the event it goes near full totalitarian.

THAT is just TOO IMPORTANT to trim any of it back due to these awful murders due to cowardly cops and boys with no fathers.

No.

I think it should be based on IQ not age. The mental health thing is important but touchy.

You want to own a weapon? You must be nuts and not eligible to purchase one.

My mother lived in fear of my brother getting drafted and sent off to Vietnam with a rifle capable of fully automatic operation.

It was felt in the era that if 18-year olds were expected to fight LBJ’s war (with a fully automatic capable gun) that they ought to have the right to vote.

Obviously you didn't get the memo, it's "Nixon's War" now.

the 2nd Amendment protects 18+ to properly arm up to fight the federal government in the event it goes near full totalitarian.

That is missing out in the current debate. It's in case we deal with a Hitler, a Stalin or a Mao in our government.

Our government is messy with freedoms it provides sometimes. We cannot assume that our government would always remain beign (Japanese government after WWII).

I don't think anyone trusts our government right now, look at what happened with 1/6/21 protestors.

But your 2nd amendment is keeping the federal government honest (somewhat) so far.
