Putin threatens to turn off Europe's gas supplies TOMORROW if countries refuse to pay in roubles, saying 'We get nothing free of charge and we are not going to engage in charity either'

Vladimir Putin today threatened to turn off Europe's gas supplies from tomorrow if countries refuse to pay in roubles.

The Russian President, announcing a decree in televised remarks, said foreign buyers would have to 'open rouble accounts in Russian banks' which can be used to pay for 'gas delivered starting from tomorrow'.

'If such payments are not made, we will consider this a default on the part of buyers, with all the ensuing consequences. Nobody sells us anything for free, and we are not going to do charity either - that is, existing contracts will be stopped,' he said

The move has been seen as a bid to bolster the Russian currency and economy, hit by Western sanctions, in order to fund the war. But Western companies and governments have rejected the move as a breach of existing contracts, which are set in euros or dollars.

The European Union relies on Russia for 40 per cent of its gas consumption, costing the bloc £340million (€400million) a day in contracts which are mostly settled in euros or dollars. According to Gazprom, 58 per cent of its sales of natural gas to Europe and other countries as of January 27 were settled in euros. US dollars accounted for about 39 per cent of gross sales and sterling around three per cent.

A Kremlin decree published today sets out that contracts will be stopped if buyers do not sign up to the new conditions, including opening rouble accounts in Russian banks. The buyers can still pay in foreign currency and authorise the bank to sell that for roubles, which are placed in the second account, where the gas is formally purchased.

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck rejected Putin's the demands as an unacceptable breach of contract

1. Who is at fault for their dependence on Russian gas?

2. Who chose sides and instead of staying neutral championed the Ukraine?

How am I supposed to feel about this?

Wait, I know, CNN and MSNBC will tell me, Russia bad. Russia at fault. Hahaha

Europe can send the thank you cards to Joe Biden for him to allow it to happen due to his ideas.

That screaming sound you hear is when a stooge gets an idea now you know why he’s sent home on the weekends and kept in the basement.

I think the Germans should build another wind turbine.

I’m sure that’ll fix the problem.

Isn’t it “breach of contract” if you refuse to pay Russia in the form you previously agreed, too? Was it not dollars that you won’t provide Russia?

Remember that laughingstock, Trump? From 2018

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump launched a sharp public attack on Germany on Wednesday for supporting a Baltic Sea gas pipeline deal with Russia, saying Berlin had become “a captive to Russia” and he criticized it for failing to raise defense spending more.

Trump, meeting reporters with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, before a NATO summit in Brussels, said it was “very inappropriate” that the United States was paying for European defense against Russia while Germany, the biggest European economy, was supporting gas deals with Moscow.

Marxists meet reality.

They just ran out of other people’s money.

I’m no fan of Russia, as my sister in law’s family is in Mariupol, but the west seized russia’s assets overseas, the french seized a russian ship on the high seas, and many companies stopped fulfilling contracts to russia on america and the eu’s “sanctions”. Plus we will see a doubling in food prices over the next year. The last time the us went down this road was in the late 30’s when we seized japan’s assets, shut down sale of oil and metal supplies, threatening to destroy Japan’s economy. Also we sent a group of pilot’s over to china as the “ American Volunteer Group” to intervene in the war between Japan and China. Unfortunately it lead to Japan doing a first strike on Hawaii and invading most of the western Pacific. And probably prevented the Russian Japanese war that was brewing at that time. Hopefully history won’t repeat itself and WW3 will not start. But “Hope is not a Method”, (BTW a good read on the 1st Gulf War) .

BAHAHAHAHAHA.

Like seizing Russian assets isn’t.

How am I supposed to feel about this?

I'm hoping Ukraine gets turned into a skidmark and the Germans freeze to death. Especially those who destroyed their own energy production

I love the smell of consequences in the morning.

Just this morning, I was reading that Russia was going to allow Germany to give their payment to Gazprom in Euros. Was that a temporary thing, or something separate?

Should have worked towards a peaceful end to the invasion instead of arming Ukrainians
