President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is no longer pressing for NATO membership for Ukraine, a delicate issue that was one of Russia’s stated reasons for invading its pro-Western neighbor.

In another apparent nod aimed at placating Moscow, Zelensky said he is open to “compromise” on the status of two breakaway pro-Russian territories that President Vladimir Putin recognized as independent just before unleashing the invasion on February 24.

“I have cooled down regarding this question a long time ago after we understood that … NATO is not prepared to accept Ukraine,” Zelensky said in an interview aired Monday night on ABC News.

“The alliance is afraid of controversial things, and confrontation with Russia,” the president added.

“And NATO is afraid of confrontation with Russia.”

Anyone who does not respect 7,000 nuclear weapons is stupid.

Super stupid.

I think you’re right about a lot of it.

Basically, Pootypoot is a bully. He sniffs out which presidents are wusses [Obambam, Biden], which presidents are tough & will cause him trouble [Trump] and acts accordingly. Push hard and go on the offensive during the wuss years, pull back and Biden His Time during the resistive years.

The propose of NATO is to protect NATO member from defensive war, not the former Warsaw Pact or Russia.

Americans don’t need NATO to protect us from Russia but we do need NATO to help secure us from China.

It is against the interest of NATO to defend any non-NATO state, as that undermines Both NATO’s mission in preserving peace for NATO members, and NATO’s value in providing security which non-NATO members might expect for free.

That and the fact that NATO exist to protect NATO members.
Going to war on behalf of Non-NATO members is doing the opposite of NATO’s mission.

If NATO had simply moved more quickly to admit Ukraine, or Joe Biden been less unclear about U.S. involvement BEFORE Russian invasion. Lives would have been saved and secured.

If NATO had simply moved more quickly to admit Ukraine

Ukraine was corrupt so I think NATO was waiting for them to clean up their act before they get admitted. Yeah, we know it's a legacy of Soviet rule in Ukraine. But Ukraine shouldn't taint the alliance if they joined before they were ready. NATO is too big as it is right now. Greece and Turkey are allies under NATO but they are enemies.

As expected Without NATO membership the Ukraine is effectively a Russian client State.

A few additional break-away republics hardly matter other than to prove Russia will do what it wants to Ukraine.

If this moron had made the same correct decision even a few weeks ago then he could have avoided all of this.

They had to inject more grift, to all of the players (ClintonKerry0bamaPeLOUSYRomneyMcCains, etc), into the Ukraine laundering machine.

Never let a *criisis* go to waste, and all.
