It is unclear how many people will come to the Bay Area but humanitarian group organizers say they want to be ready
Desperation is growing Wednesday as Ukrainians rush to leave the country they love.
More than a million have fled in just the last week and some of those refugees have arrived in the Bay Area to make this their new home.
“Some of the people already arrived,” said Igor Markov of NOVA Ukraine. “A friend of mine was just at SFO meeting his parents.”
Refugee camps are popping up across the border in Poland, Moldova, and Romania, and Bay Area nonprofits like NOVA Ukraine are helping people there get here.
“We are in touch with people in Poland and Romania. As of 20 minutes ago we just created a team to coordinate legal help,” said Markov.
The type of help refugees will need when they get to America.
“My whole city is just dust,” said a refugee.
People are telling heart-breaking stories of how bombs killed their loved ones, leaving them very few options.
“It was like giving your soul to god every second,” said a refugee. “Our trains stopped in the middle of Kyiv and they were shooting and we heard bombs flying over the planes and I thought this particular moment I can die.”
In Ukraine's major cities, an intensifying Russian assault is growing more deadly.
As many as 2,000 civilians were killed in the past week, according to Ukrainian officials.
“I want to echo the UN refugee agencies’ call to help and welcome all those fleeing conflict without regard to race or nationality,” said Ambassador Linda Thomas. “Refugees are refugees.”
In the Bay Area, help is needed.
The non-profit organizations need people to volunteer, host families and donate time and money.

A million Ukrainians had already fled Ukraine before this conflict. Guess where they went seeking a better life. Russia
Boy are they going to get a Shock they’ll want to go back to the War
You don’t think they’ll like seeing human feces in the streets?
But I bet they don't sh*t in the streets there.
Gotta feel like a demotion.
Price Shock is gonna freak them out
Well, if things “go right”, the rest of the Ukrainian citizens can enjoy being Russian subjects. I’m sure that they’re thrilled that Russian troops and tanks are in Ukraine now helping them out with that.
My opinion: That would be a plus for the Bay Area.

Utter crap. Don’t you even bother to check this crap before you post it?

Yup. Ukrainians are family-oriented Christians and when they become US citizens they overwhelmingly register to vote as Republicans.
San Francisco? They fled to San Francisco? They’re better off in Kiev. In fact, if Putin decided to turn his tanks towards San Francisco, I would surrender that urban albatross to him before they got there.
One bedroom apartments almost all full at between $3000 and $5000 a month. Who’s gonna pay even if vacancies can be found?
Yes, I admit part of me wondered if they would be let into the country. Didn't AOC already say they were benefiting from racial favoritism?
I thought all the Ukrainian civilians stood their ground and are fighting the Russians for every inch of their beloved soil.
The propagandists can’t keep their story straight.
Well, actually, contradictory propaganda messages are a very effective form of brainwashing—the dupes get their minds short-circuited and just start believing anything they are told.
You’re not paying attention. The majority of the refugees are women with children. Military age men are staying in Ukraine to fight the Russian invaders.
So what happens when the war is over? Wouldn’t these people want to go home and help rebuild their country?
Well, at least they did not get suckered into going to Seattle. Can you imagine if Antifa tried to set up a CHOP zone in Seattle if Putin was mayor? He would have tanks rumbling over them by nightfall. He makes a terrible President, but he may make a great mayor for an unwieldy out of control city.
I don’t quit understand the logic of moving them.
Says a million here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Ukraine
