Seven days into the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it remains unclear how many casualties Russia has sustained.

The Ukrainian government said on March 2 the “indicative” number of Russia’s losses stands at 5,840 people. Russia has only admitted it had any losses four days after it started the war, and had not given any numbers.

Thermobaric - first explosive charge spreads an aerosol akin to vaporized gasoline over the area. A second charge then ignites the aerosol fog, creating a huge blast, flames, a large pressure wave and a vacuum as oxygen from the surrounding air is sucked up

It’s just 1939 all over again.
But this time around, the world has been given a chance to do it right.

In 1939 germany attacked Poland on september 1st, and rusia backstabed PL with attack on sept. 17th.
Poland had defensive pacts with France and UK but they didnt do a thing. They were afraid of hitler, just like world is afraid of putin now...

I guess some people are skeptical, maybe all these reports of attacks on Russian troops are all fake.

People need to understand that there is a veritable flood of video clips on TikTok, Telegram and Twitter coming in every day.

Everyone has a cellphone in Ukraine. People in the defense forces, civilians, everyone. They are uploading stuff, you can often find clips with different angles recording the aftermath of the same skirmish, as more than one person is walking around taking cellphone video and uploading it.

And there are other people on the internet trying to geolocate and cross-check all these reports and verify specific Russian units and equipment lost.

Yeah, there is fake news here and there. Like Adam Kinzinger was caught sharing on his social media post.

But it ain’t all fake, folks.

Good info. Although comments of the mother can’t really be verified, the reporter tied her comments to the facts on the ground.

To be honest, I’m not completely sold on that story.

I’ve seen it claimed in multiple news outlets, but they were passing off a photograph from 2015 as current evidence in at least one story I recall seeing.

Personally, I’m holding that in abeyance until I see something more convincing.

“Can you help me with a tranlation of that comrade?”

Your first mistake was thinking as it requires functioning equipment. Sorry if you can’t understand, comrade.

[All for the paranoid fantasies of a gangster/career secret policeman who imagines himself achieving eternal fame as the founder of a new Russo-Slavic empire.]

I don’t think he’s paranoid or a fantasist. Don’t take his pronouncements at face value. No one’s going to back this venture if he says he’s just trying to add another notch on his belt. How’s Putin going to tell the lowly grunt that he’s risking his life so Putin can become a BMOC among Russian rulers? I bet he envies the rulers of Alexander’s time - Alex could at least offer his men straightforward come-on’s like all the loot they could carry and nubile slave women.

I tend to think of Putin as just the latest Tsar, just like the Red Tsars before him. I’m actually pretty impressed. A mid-level apparatchiki vaults himself to the throne. Takes moxie. Too bad he’s trying to add “the Great” to his name via an old-fashioned land grab.

Important to note:

Czarist were termed ‘White’ Russians
Communists were termed ‘Red’ Russians

However, Stalin Deserved was given the name ‘the red Tsar’ in his ruling the Soviet Union

Joseph Stalin had the position of the General Secretary of the Communist party. After the death of Lenin in 1924, Stalin took over as Soviet Union’s ruler until 1953 when he died. The term came from his rule which was not questioned by anyone. However, Stalin, unlike the Czars, ensured that all his opponents to power were destroyed to strengthen his authority in the Soviet Union.

Stalin’s ‘ruling’ did not tolerate any form of criticism.
He caused the death of many people in Russia. Also, Staling violated the rights of his citizens by launching a massive campaign to deport many ethnic groups that opposed his kind of leadership..

Because of the fear Stalin instilled in people, he had a great influence on the people and eventually he created a personality cult.

So I TOTALLY agree the term fits Putin

Even if the Uke casualty reporting is correct, that is a drop in the bucket vis a vis the manpower reserves Russia has. So it could all be true, but, so far, insufficient to bring on the stalemate Ukraine is hoping for.

I know. Putin has sort of repudiated Communism, at least as an economic system, so I’m only referring to the Bolsheviks as the Red Tsars. Putin’s like the old White Tsars, because Russia does have a market economy again. In that respect, Putin is similar to the Romanovs and the Rurikids before the Bolsheviks.

Britain and France were in no position to do much about Poland. They only kicked off their mobilization upon declaration of war, and they didn’t get their act together in the four weeks Poland held out. And there was no way to get to Poland at all.

It was a moot point once the Soviets invaded, the Poles probably could have held out for a few more months, without the Soviets invading, which conceivably could have allowed time for Britain and France to jump in.

My impression is that Communism is merely a version of monarchy with a wider aristocracy. The people at the top of the revolt became the dukes, earls and monarchs, and others who served lower down the totem pole got to be part of the lower aristocratic ranks. The wider aristocratic base helped greatly with recruitment. Risk your life and be set for life, if you win.

The peasants who did not participate actively got very little benefit and huge numbers starved to death, once the loot seized from the wealthy was spent. Ironically, Marxist ideology proved to be the opiate of the masses - it kept them docile even as they were starving to death in unprecedented numbers. Surely the leadership was doing its best, and factors outside of their control - including wreckers - were the cause of their hunger. A loving deity had been replaced by a loving Party leadership.
