n Tuesday night, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was forced into a May Republican primary runoff with George P. Bush, a victory for the Bush family in their long-running feud with former President Donald Trump.
Paxton had been endorsed in the race by Trump, who called the embattled attorney general "strong on Crime, Border Security, the Second Amendment, Election Integrity and, above all, our Constitution."
Bush, on the other hand, is the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and a scion of the most famous family in establishment Republican politics. His father and Trump feuded regularly during the course of the 2016 campaign. Neither Jeb Bush nor his brother, former President George W. Bush, voted for Trump in 2016. (George W. Bush also revealed he didn't vote for Trump in 2020.) Their late mother, Barbara Bush, said of Trump: "He sort of makes faces and says insulting things."
"I guess what I'd say is, clearly, to the establishment: They got what they wanted," Paxton said in a speech to supporters late Tuesday. "They got me in a runoff."

He’s just lying to fool the rubes, like all Bush League Republicans do, Flimsey Grahamnesty and Micro Rubio are prime examples.
“...and I think he started out as a conservative.”
The closest he ever was to a conservative was interning for George Will.
Stopped reading at ‘Chris Cilizza’
I voted for Paxton and will in the runoff; but Bush was at least running as a Trump conservative. No, I don’t trust him or any Bushes, but I hope I am wrong in his case.
I do recall that as an old RR joke!
I have no idea who would have voted for P Bush... none of my conservative associates did or would have voted.
Paxton got just under the 50% threshold. Urine Bush didn’t get half of Paxton’s vote. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Paxton get a 2-to-1 margin in the runoff. Then again, Urine could concede so Paxton can use his $$ against the Demonrat in November.
When ? I’ve seen Cilizza for 25 years and he was never anything but a leftist shill.
Please understand, most people who voted for other than Paxton in the primary WILL NOT vote for any Bush in the runoff. I am ashamed of Gohmert for being part of the Rove plan to get Bush into the runoff. His campaign was given money by one large donor, explicity to take votes away from Paxton. I am a Gohmert supporter and thought about voting for him, but his ads were telling lies. I don’t know what cushy job the Bushes lined up for him.
Democrats would have voted for P.
“Please understand, most people who voted for other than Paxton in the primary WILL NOT vote for any Bush in the runoff.”
That’s my assessment as well.
I don’t know what the deal is with Gohmert either. Maybe he’s like Jeff Sessions. Good in his current position, but will screw you later on.
Texas should ‘stay out da Bushes’
What worries me is that some “surprise” will blow up on Paxton just before the runoff giving the win to Pee. Once elected, incumbents are nearly always reelected by dumb voters based on name recognition. Then Texas will be stuck with a RINO AG until he decides to run for governor and then president.
After all, as a Bush, he is entitled to higher office. He will have the establishment behind him. It was a smart move on the part of Pee to run for Texas AG as a step to higher office.
Hope that I am wrong. If Pee wins, we can blame Gohmert for splitting the conservative vote.
Texans are stupid enough to vote for another Bush?
Not this Texan, nor my friends or family. Those pics of “W” with his besties the Clintoons and Odungo’s cinched it for many Texans......like I said, Texans are trimming the Bushes down here.
It’s a win for nobody yet.
But for Paxton’s baggage he would not have even challenged seriously by anyone.
Chris Cizilla is hardly a credible commentator for Republican politics.
I wonder if the Bush Team has been holding back info on Paxton, we know how dirty they can play.
If P wins you will have to blame the idiots who voted for him.
No one else will be responsible.
With you man!!
The author did ZERO research.
The younger Bush strongly embraced President Trump and policies pursued by his administration, like the Border Wall. It was mostly likely to the dismay of his family members but he probably would not be in the runoff otherwise.
Is it sincere?
That is for each of you to decide.
I did not vote for George P. and probably will not in the runoff, but the article is basically whole cloth inaccurate and either full of lies or the work of slip shod reporting, or both!
The Bushes are on the democrats’ JV team
