Addressing an adoring crowd at CPAC, Trump expressed empathy for Ukrainians and this time praised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, calling him "brave" as he stays in Kyiv, the capital.
"The Russian attack on Ukraine is appalling. We are praying for the proud people of Ukraine. God bless them all," Trump said.

Its such a complicated situation. I understand him wanting to bring Russia into our orbit, and Putin would have to be managed for that to happen. It looks bad, what he said before, but I get it. Hopefully the Russians dump Putin and pick someone more aligned with their interests, so the rest of the world can deal with that person.

Like it or not, Russia isn’t going away. Putin will be gone one day, we should have brought Russia into the fold after the end of the Soviet Union, but our State Department botched it.
Let’s hope they don’t do the same next time.

If the Ukraine can survive this onslaught it’s better for all if they suffer heavily in the process. Sometimes you need to be hit hard to understand what you’re up against. I think Germany and Japan understand. The did not think they they’d lose and they hurt too many people. Israel-never again.
Putin needs to be hung for this. Trump should show his wrath the same way he did against Mitch and all his other backstabbers. It would suggest he and Putin are in the same fraternity.

We were getting along really well with the Russians, Gorbachev and then Boris “the original tank man” Yeltsin were wonderful men. Then Putin happened.
As I understood, Trump called Putin “smart” for making his long expected move into Ukraine now because he recognized that, not so smart and very weak, Biden could not stop him.

Saying an adversary is a genius doesn’t make him any less an adversary.
Putin is absolutely an intelligent man that has done an ill-conceived thing. Personally, I’m wondering if he hasn’t miscalculated on China the whole time, though.
