Grace’s Last Day: A Father Questions Hospital Protocols Leading Up to His Daughter’s Death

On Grace Schara’s last day, she had been given a combination of a sedative, an anxiety medication, and morphine leading up to her time of death at 7:27 p.m. on Oct. 13, 2021.

With an armed guard standing near the doorway of her room at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, Wisconsin, Jessica, Grace’s sister and patient advocate, screamed at nurses she saw standing in the hallway begging them to help Grace, who had been admitted to the hospital on Oct. 6 after testing positive for the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus on Oct. 1.

Grace felt cold after the 6:15 p.m. morphine injection, Jessica reported. She attempted to get a nurse’s help and was told this was normal.

Jessica Facetimed her parents, Scott and Cindy, at 7:20 p.m. They both joined Jessica in her pleas.

There was nothing to be done, a nurse responded from the hallway, because Grace had been coded as Do Not Resuscitate (DNR).

Scott and Cindy yelled that she wasn’t DNR.

I work in the Hosp Biz...for very many years now.

I'm a DNR...So if I've some terminal DZ...I don't want CPR done on me.

Coded a guy a few weeks ago,,,he was 94 yrs old. We worked on him for 20-25 mins...Crushed his chest...caused a collapsed lung. The guy had no chance....at 94.

I've personally heard sternum and ribs break while doing compressions...

I need to write a book...on the things I've seen and done. Would be funny and some sad.............

Yes. Note what the hospital said was the reason for the lack of treatment; the girl had a DNR. See the quote from my post #58. A DNR was the reason that hospital gave for not treating a fatal opioid overdose with naloxone. This wasn't chest compressions, electrical defibrillation or mechanical intervention; it was a shot.
The parents of the girl seem to think she died of drug related issues that might have been alleviated by naloxone. I will say that the story paints them as hysterical. Screaming at the staff and turning off medical alarms isn't a good way to interact with people who make life or death decisions. Being reasonable under pressure is required even in the face of people you think are adversaries.
