Russia threatens power grids if Biden moves in Ukraine
Washington Examiner ^

Posted on 02/03/2022 6:03:30 PM PST by TigerClaws

The nation’s leading expert on protecting the electric grid from attack urges governors to take the lead because the Biden administration won’t.

In a new alert, Peter Vincent Pry, the executive director of the EMP Task Force on National and Homeland Security, said concerns are growing that Russia, North Korea, and Iran are inching closer to testing an electromagnetic attack on the U.S. grid, or parts of it.

He noted the current crisis in Ukraine could spark a Russian attack, and he cited state media making the threat in the past.

“In April 2021, during the previous big crisis between Russia versus the U.S. and NATO over Ukraine, Moscow’s state-run TV broadcast to the world that: ‘War is inevitable…it will be a Cyber War,’” Pry said in his note, shown below.

He said Florida has been threatened “to deter the U.S. from helping Ukraine.”

And he said just last month, a member of the Russian Duma (the country's Congress) “proposed warning Washington that Moscow is serious about nuclear war over Ukraine — by launching a hypersonic warhead to detonate on or over the Nevada nuclear test area. A nuclear or non-nuclear EMP demonstration could blackout Nevada or the entire Western Grid.”

Former President Donald Trump took some steps to protect grids around the country, but they remain open to either an attack or a natural hit from a solar flare.

With Washington stalled, he suggested governors take the lead and even drafted a model executive order they could use.

“The White House and Congress have tried to protect the nation’s electric grids and other life-sustaining critical infrastructures through executive orders and legislation. But federal departments, agencies, and regulatory bodies, through incompetence or corruption or both, have all failed to make our nation safe from EMP and Cyber Warfare,” he said.

In a recent report on the impact of a power grid outage, Pry warned that up to 90% of the U.S. population could die during a year without power.

“I assume trucks would still somehow roll unless EMP knocks them out as well?”

Assuming the theory behind EMP is correct, most, if not all, trucks would never run again. Engines have too many electrical components to replace.

The only vehicles left running would be 1970s vintage.

Just like covid, this will be planned. The government knows what's coming in 2022. I have been saying for a while now - the power grids will suddenly go out OR there will be some major disruption of the internet so people cant communicate before the election. You just watch. There is no way in hell this congress is going to allow a regular election to take place on Nov 2022. They will just blame it on Russia. Why do you think they need to start this war? They need an ememy to blame for the "outage" of the election. MARK MY WORDS.

Wow that is very bad, VERY. No way in hell could food be distributed fast enough to stave off starvation plus I was thinking of all the farming machines, processing plants that would cease to function. Can you imagine the panic and anarchy that would ensue if food production and transportation suddenly ceased? Now I absolutely can see how millions would die, and let me guess: We have zero protection against an EMP attack.

BS fear mongering.

Same ol’ same ol’ - someone looking for a check.

The russkis know there would be a massive, unsurvivable, response to their setting off an EMP anywhere over North America.

Great. Even the Washington Examiner is writing hack click-bait headlines.

The article has “…a member of the Russian Duma (the country’s Congress) “proposed warning Washington that Moscow is serious about nuclear war over Ukraine — by launching a hypersonic warhead to detonate on or over the Nevada nuclear test area.”

which magically turns into “Russia threatens power grids…” in the title of the article.

What a joke.

With our country in ruins, infrastructure destroyed and the people starving and forming feudal gangs to survive do you think the Chinese will come and farm the land they’ve bought?

With what? Where will they get the livestock, seed and machinery to do that? If the U.S. crashes China will be eating all their surpluses and turning on each other before they can establish anything here on their own.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a major ice storm, hurricane, or emp, or grid attack. Fill your bathtub, and your empty milk gallons. And if it is cold season with subfreeze llkely, drain your water system. Imagine if everyone is in a panic and all the pipes freeze the kind of recovery that would be needed. I remember when there was one storm crisis how desperate the people in that part of Florida were for water.

LOL! Yup. Being without power for a long stretch in July and August is NOT fun in Fla. Good thing we didn’t need to worry about charging our EV.

Peter Vincent Pry, the executive director of the EMP Task Force on National and Homeland Security

Peter Pry has been whoring himself and the EMP problem around DC for years. It's a bunch of folks living in the Swamp looking for a huge payoff.

The technical issue is that to provide the OOMPPH for even a regional blackout requires a 100kT plus size nuke. Anyone launching anything like that just started Armageddon anyway.

Well the theory is correct, but the theory is not what some folks are claiming the theory is. A megaton class warhead at high altitude would have a huge regional impact. But the impacts are varied depending upon geology, orientation of individual objects, computer placement relative to any structural metal, effects of metal roofs, water absorption.

It's incredibly spotty, and the effect would be way less than 100%.

And, if someone detonates a megaton class warhead over the US, they will be transformed into a sheet of glass with a counterstrike launched before their launch hits us.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a major ice storm, hurricane, or emp, or grid attack.

Another point. Our electrical infrastructure is a lot more robust than people think it is. A good hurricane or tornado or even a large thunderstorm packs a lot more energy than a nuclear weapon does. Mother nature challenges the grid everywhere every day.

There was an interesting post about a recent grid failure in Texas. People wanted to blame it on tree huggers, but failed to consider that the northern states manage to use the sme kind of energy that was complained about in Texas. Moreover, Texas had had a similar freezing episode in 2011, but had failed to make the system upgrades that would have prevented the recent problem. Captalism at its best.

IF anyone of those punks did anything to our grids, a few nuke boomer subs should immediately turn their main cities into ash heeps. What you do to us, we do triple to you!!! Send a stern warning of our retaliation upon their stinking @$$e$ if they attack us. Oh, wait, I forgot Uncle Joe StalinBiden is in charge, okay maybe Obammy is in charge, up in Sodom on the Potomac.

EXACTLY!! THAT is why the Cold War was simply a stand off. Both knew what the ultimate results of an exchange would be. Back then, the Soviets still remembered the 50 million that died in the Great War and what it cost. But, maybe today, 80+ years later, ole Puketin has forgotten that little event of world history.
