Hollywood stunt drivers from Fast and Furious fired for being too reckless.
Give them a second chance, America.
Those teens, what’ll they get into next? Just can’t keep ‘em down.
No longer illegal for them to transport Coors Beer. Just cocaine and counterfeit vax cards.
The big trucks have gotten terrifying, they pass me when I’m driving over 75MPH. If they put the young ones in the right positions and keep them out of extreme grade and weather conditions the idea can work. And over time, the young ones will learn all the tricks to keeping themselves and everyone around them alive so they all get home.
As long as they Take It Easy. :-)
Since many truck drivers are independent-operators, the insurance companies will have to charge sky-high rates.
On a side note..don’t US truckers need to pass DOT physicals?
I see 350-400 pounders who can barely walk and barely breath at our local Pilot Truck stop/gas station all the time.
One guys bottom legs were so swollen and bright red..while carrying his 1/2 gallon fillable soft drink container. You could hear him breathing across the store.
How do these guys keep their jobs?
How will the teens make out with the hookers at truck stops?
Bad idea. Teenagers behind the wheel of 80,000 pd rigs.
That’s entirely different than giving unknown youts a giant monster of an 18 wheeler and setting them loose on the Interstate.
Doesn’t matter. Todays newer trucks are automatic. It’s backing into parking and loading docks that takes lots of practice.
I seriously doubt there will be a lot of applicants that do not already have driving skills. In rural areas of Georgia, kids get their first go-cart or dirt bike at around age 10. They are driving farm equipment around age 12 or 14 and start driving vehicles on the back-roads around that same age. Heck, we have kids around here that are already on the race car circuit at age 16. So I would suspect that most that would be interested in driving a big rig are going to have more driving experience than a lot of adults.
“99% of ‘em don’t even know what the heck a manual shift is so good luck with that”
Most trucks have autostic transmissions
I agree there’s a subset of teens that are still into cars and motorsports.
I went to a race at Indy run by the SCCA, there were 72 Mazda Miatas in the race, the winner was a Nascar driver but third place was a 15 yr old.
Stop the eco nonsense and let truckers truck. I drove w my husband for a few months. You never sleep well, never clean and cant even make a living. Hard work for no pay.
I would like to see a few kids who love in their mons basement find out what it like to pee in a cup in a traffic jam.
However.. if they are old enough to choose their gender lets start younger. They are obviously smarter than any generation before them.
Most trucks are now automatics which will let them tech and drive 80,000 pounds near your wives and daughters.
Until.. their computer goes down.
I would say this is dangerous, bit as long as the ruling class remains secure in their ivory tower.. we matter not.
I made my kids learn to read a map, use a phonebook. Work without technology.
“It says that in the Constitution somewhere, right?”
Same place as interstate speed limits.
I was driving farm tractor in fields, unsupervised by the time I turned 7 yrs old. Was driving straight (class B) grain trucks at 12 (not on state or interstate highways).
I also could take off and land a twin engine aircraft (Cessna 310) at 16.
If a kids can pass the requirements, show a natural skill at operating, then 18 is fine with me.
