Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Quinton Lucas (D) on Sunday said he is facing two challenges as his municipality battles COVID-19: misinformation regarding vaccinations and opposition from the political right when it comes to mask mandates and other mitigation practices.
Asked by moderator Margaret Brennan on CBS’s “Face the Nation” what is holding him back from enacting a citywide mask mandate to tame the spread of COVID-19, Lucas pointed to the “political challenge” he has received from the state of Missouri.

Since cities get all of their political power from the state government and the states’ constitutions, a democrat mayor in a state completely dominated by Republicans shouldn’t be surprised when the state government fails to go along with his dictatorial inclinations.
So the Right is talking black people into not getting the vaccine or wearing masks? Because the last I heard black people were not getting the vaccine in the numbers of caucasian people.
It’s not a covid challenge. We are pushing back against socialism and tyranny.
The mayor blames misinformation.
The CBS moderator asks “what is holding him back from enacting a citywide mask mandate to tame the spread of COVID-19”.
The moderator’s question itself implies that citywide mask mandates would tame the spread, which flies in the face of reams of data proving the ineffectiveness of mask mandates.
So, the moderator is spreading misinformation, while the mayor blames misinformation for his/her inability to slow the rise of Omicron “cases”.
So, I guess we are in a pandemic of misinformation here. Perhaps we should put our resources toward the development of a misinformation vaccine. First, all government figures will be told to shut their trap (just for 15 days to slow the spread of misinformation), then they will have to show proof of receiving the lie-vax before they can speak again to anyone other than up to 6 members of their family.
“Misinformation” — the new “Racism” cry. Both are completely meaningless.
Vaccines were available along with the masks and the wuhan continued to spread.
It's going to continue to spread barring Divine intervention to stop it.

Except for the evil Right Wingers lies, Kansas City would be recognized as the finest municipality in the world, thanks to their city government. It would be the safest city anywhere if lunatic Right Wingers with guns were not running Amok in the Plaza.

Kansas City had city-wide mask mandates for much of 2020 and 2021, as did Jackson County. The city and county were in lockstep until the adjoining Kansas county, Johnson, removed its mask mandates and people from KC started eating and shopping there.
The Jackson County legislators finally removed their mask mandate and Q-ball (our affectionate name for Lucas) recognized he couldn’t get another mask mandate through.
Still many, many Karens and Kens, driving in their care wearing masks, and the unmasked are fine with it, just don’t make us wear them.
