Posted on 10/26/2021 8:25:41 PM PDT by RomanSoldier19

Synopsis The report comes ahead of a crucial decision that the Biden administration has to take on India buying military arms from Russia and whether it plans to impose sanctions against the country under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) .

There has been a considerable drop in India's dependence on arms and equipment from Russia but the Indian military cannot operate effectively without Russian-supplied equipment and will continue to rely on its weapons systems in the near and middle terms, a Congressional Research Service (CRS) report has said.

"Many analysts in India and beyond conclude that the Indian military cannot operate effectively without Russian-supplied equipment and will continue to rely on Russian weapons systems in the near and middle terms," the independent CRS said in a report 'Russian Arms Sales and Defense Industry'.

"As put by one senior American observer, New Delhi's continuing purchases 'remain one of the few levers of influence that India still possesses vis-à vis Moscow'. In this ..

India is our natural ally and we should do nearly everything to sustain them.

So then Russia controls the balance between India and China, who haven’t liked each other lately

I remember reading that Afghan mechanics could fix Russian helicopters because they had experience in fixing them. But Americans decided to get rid of them and bought our helicopters for the Afghan Air Force. We all know the ending to that story.

If the Biden cabal were to sanction India, then there is little doubt that China has a prominent seat at the Biden cabal table. Would be nice if Americans knew who writes those “Executive Orders” that Biden can barely read.

The Russians have India’s military by the short hairs because of they cut off replacement parts, etc., the Paks will be able to hit them hard and the Red Chinese could wipe them out.

Six lousy aerial refueling tankers for all of the Indian military/Air Force. We have more than that in storage in the “Boneyard” in Tucson, AZ.

And why would the Russians want to cut off their biggest and only not-hostile major power customer? And why do you think that the Indian Air Force does not stock enough spare parts to last a war? And why would you think that the Rafales and Mirage 2000s could not take care of the initial Chinese thrust till more parts found their way on French and British aircraft? The Pakis would fall to the MiG21s and the Tejas which is equal to anyting the Pakis can use.

Indias reliance on Russian systems was due to the mollycoddling of the Pakis by America all these years.

To think that America would not help India in a shooting match with China is absurd. Everything except boots on the ground, which we have 2 million of, anyway.

While I agree with you, the reality is Russian weapons are cheaper to buy and easier to operate and maintain ; these last two qualities are the most costly in any weapons system and those prices are included in the initial contracts. That doesn’t mean they are better. India is not a rich country, and their military is most familiar with Russian weapons.

India made it very clear for decades that they were NOT our ally; there is no “natural” (historical, cultural, religious) link between the two nations. They are a pool of cheap white-collar labor for the US; that is the extent of the relationship.

It makes sense in terms of keeping some measure of control over the Afghan military; when Iran’s Shah was deposed some nice modern jets sat unused during the Ayatollah’s reign because we wouldn’t service them or provide parts. In their 8-year war with Iraq, it could have been a game-changer...

There is more to the current Indian-American relationship than their being a source of ‘cheap white collar labor’.

Moreover, a set of natural alignments could be built into a strategic partnership.

After all, India is the world’s largest English-speaking nation, the world’s largest democracy, the world’s largest pluralistic society, the world’s largest capitalistic economy, the world’s largest (or soon to be) population … AND, critically, a huge geographic-strategic counter-weight to China

We have few common values with India; they are more of a natural alignment with England at best. India also has plenty of socialism mixed with their capitalism.

Here in NJ there are many Indians, and it is no accident they are safe Dem voters.

Our historical military relationship (or lack thereof) shows the gulf between the two countries. The idea of a counter-weight to Red China, a country we build and fuel, only makes sense if someone believes our political class views them as a genuine threat or enemy. Japan and Taiwan are concerned because words are empty but our ACTIONS indicate Red China is a true partner to the US (as horrific as that is to me); our store shelves packed with their goods makes it very clear they are just a boogeyman for the news.

Our partnership with them is still quite strong, and we won’t lift a finger to stop them. They increasingly control our entertainment industry to frame them in a positive light, convincing Americans they are our partners - all allowed by our government.

THAT is the prime reason Trump was deposed in 2020.

Miniscule but where does the Indian Air Force have to go that would require a large tanker fleet?
