While reading a story about a new COVID-19 variant called R-1, blamed for 53 cases in California, I came across a line that needs to be corrected. “The R.1 variant proves that mutations will continue to take place. The most effective way to stop these mutations from happening is to get vaccinated.” You will hear statements like this about vaccines and mutations from the president on down. Everyone needs to be able to combat this idea.
First, viruses mutate when they face evolutionary pressure. Obstacles to the virus entering the cells of a host’s body to make copies of itself, also called replication, create this pressure. The immune systems of many unvaccinated people will provide no obstacles at all. Over the first four to five days of a COVID-19 infection, the person’s viral load will increase, then they become symptomatic and can transmit virus to other potential hosts. There is almost no pressure on the virus to update its bag of tricks, or mutate.
Some people have been exposed to coronaviruses that are similar to SARS-CoV-2. They mount a faster immune response than those who are entirely naive or otherwise immunocompromised due to age or other illnesses. Natural immunity can be so effective that those individuals may never build a viral load sufficient to transmit it, so mutations by the virus do not get passed on. Alternatively, innate immunity works so effectively that the virus doesn’t have time to evolve.
Research has shown that those who have recovered from SARS-CoV-1 and other beta coronaviruses may have this immune response. Likewise, research on natural immunity to SARS-CoV-2 at Emory shows that patients recovered from COVID-19 have reactive immunity to SARS-CoV-1 and other viruses. During the H1N1 pandemic, a similar phenomenon occurred.

When the idiots with medical licenses over prescribed antibiotics, what happened? ANSWER: Antibiotic resistant strains developed such that when you go into a hospital, you'll see signs saying wash, don't touch... because of the dangerous strains of bacteria.
Flash ahead to the scamdemic where the idiots with medical degrees (and a senile old fool) decreed that all serfs must receive the clot shot. The result is just like for the antibiotics that were overprescribed.
Israel is one of the vaxxed leaders in the world. It's hard for the idiots with medical degrees to explain WHY Israel is going through their third Covid PEAK when the vast majority are vaxxed.
OF course, you can consider the antibiotic analogy and it it may be that Israel ain't seen nothing yet. TIME WILL TELL and no matter how much the DimWIT presstitutes lie, the numbers will tell the truth in the not too distant future.
That’s adaptation. Not evolution.
Evolutionary theory requires addition of genetic information, positive mutations, and increasing complexity. It describes one celled organisms becoming more and more complex, species becoming other species, etc. and this it explains that amoebas become fish became squirrels became primates became humans.
These statements are not opinions nor gibberish.
No.
You are conflating some lay person’s definition of the theory of evolution with the scientific hypothesis. It is oversimplified and does not convey the actual science. The amoeba to whale is one facet of evolution but that is not where most modern interest is directed and it is far from the only kind of evolution. That was the infancy of the science, Darwin. Now interest is in phenotype and genotype and the development of behaviors like altruism, courting rituals, camouflage in butterflies and other species.
Evolution is driven by advantage to the organism such that the characteristics that enabled that organism to thrive will be passed on to future generations in greater number than the characteristics of less successful organisms. In time if they improve survival or mating success sufficiently they will dominate. Virus generations are very short so changes driven by vaccines are evidenced much sooner than with animal.
This is an interesting article. Complex organisms or behaviors is mentioned at one point but do not fail to put that into context. That is one type of evolution that is being studied: mating behaviors, bird songs ect.
Thanks for your response since in looking for a way to explain I stumbled on this very interesting article. Freegards : )

I thought Walt killed the Chicken Man?
Being a layman doesn’t mean I don’t know what I am talking about.
1. Evolution is a theory about origins of species. It rests upon the notion that life came at a long distant point in history from non life.
2. It theorizes that life began with single celled organisms that grew increasingly complex. Eventually, the algae became a fish or what have you. On to the most complex life form, mankind.
3. Adaptation requires only the thriving within species of certain traits. A bill good for seed gathering means that birds with more that type of bill will reproduce more and eventually that species will all have that bill. This is subtraction of genetic information. Not addition. It is adaptation. Easily illustrated through actual experiments.
4. Evolution requires millions of beneficial mutations (never actually observed in nature) with no negative mutations serious enough to kill a species off. Unobserved and impossible.
I have been taught evolution often enough to know what it is. I was raised and educated by enthusiastic evolutionists.
Let’s stay friends.
Adaptation & evolution are intertwined not two separate discrete processes. National Geographic has a helpful page.

If you have some time read through the article I linked before. It will illustrate better than I can that evolution is much more complex than just a path from one species to the next. For one example evolution involves preprogrammed (instinctual rather than learned) behaviors like bird display ritual and songs, the patterns on butterfly wings which evolve over time without creating a new species. In general adaptation is in a single generation, evolution is change expressed over generations.
Happy to stay friends.
Me too.
I don't see a problem. It strikes me as a way of speaking. In the end that which survives survives.
"That is the equation! Survival, existence cancels out programming!!!"

He confirms both positions, both natural occuring mutations and those accelerated by the vaccines.
