During our Civil War there was a battle in New York as the north conscripted the recent immigrants to fight in their army. So it has been done before.

Bringing in Catholic Irishmen - the mortal enemies of the white Protestants of the South - to fight his war was a disgusting betrayal of all his vaunted principles. He had German regiments as well, also largely Catholic who gleefully killed Protestants just like back in the old country. Did they care about freedom for the Africans? Dont make me laugh.
So yeah...the example is from that era.
The Irish at least had the good sense to riot in 1863 in NYC because as they pointed out, it wasnt their war. And they didnt like the idea that rich men could pay someone to take their place.
