As states battle a surge of the COVID-19 delta variant, an internal document from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been leaked that shows that the variant spreads from fully vaccinated people at the same rate as unvaccinated people.
CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky confirmed the authenticity of the document, which is a slide presentation, CNN and The Washington Post reported.
The document states that officials must “acknowledge the war has changed,” the Post reported.
“I think people need to understand that we’re not crying wolf here. This is serious,” Walensky told CNN.
“It’s one of the most transmissible viruses we know about. Measles, chickenpox, this — they’re all up there,” Walensky added.
The New York Times reported that the document states the delta variant is more transmissible than MERS, SARS, Ebola, a common cold, seasonal flu and smallpox and is as contagious as chickenpox.
The leak comes as the CDC reversed course earlier this week and now, once again, recommends that fully vaccinated people wear masks indoors in areas of the country where transmission is high, CNN reported.
The document shows that the agency knows it must get a new message out to the public that pushes vaccination as the best defense.
Officials say the delta variant is acting like a different novel virus that is moving faster than Ebola or even a cold, The Washington Post reported.
The document uses unpublished data and outside studies that officials say show that even vaccinated people are able to spread the virus as if they were unvaccinated and that they have similar delta variant viral loads as those who are not vaccinated, the Post reported.
Oh, and the Pi variant will be 3.14 times as contagious!

There is a famous case where a child on the 12th floor of a children's hospital, confined to his room, caught it from a child on the third floor, proven to be identical by molecular analysis.
Now, I read this on Twitter at 2 AM and I was up all night.
But I seriously doubt they have data that shows identity with varicella for transmissibility, and, as others have pointed out, "planted" is probably more correct than "leaked".

RE: where the Indian variant is taking over, the number of hospitalizations, ICU-patients and deaths have not increased.

I agree. My case was not bad at all and OTC self-medication seemed to help me. My wife's case was worse, but still not very bad.
I am thinking the level of contagion should be looked at as a plus. If it spreads so fast, I should burn itself out in no time. Our government is acting as if it has bad intentions all the way around . . . nothing new about that.

I’m not buying this. I had a guy who goes to my Church who tested positive, yet his Wife tested negative.
The daily cases in India are now down to below 45 000 compared to a peak of more than 400 000 per day in early May. The mortality is less than 650/day compared to a peak of 5000/day.
Well, there is a shingles vaccine.
And if I were going to die from it, as some people assure me I would most certainly do should I catch the COOF, I'd rather do it at home than in a hospital.
My Wife has also had a bad sinus infection for a couple weeks. Went to the ER when it first started and they tested her for Covid. Negative. The nurse told us there is no separate test for the Delta variant. You’re either positive or negative. There’s no way to know if it’s regular Covid or Delta.
Absolutely. Home care with family is the way to go. Just look at the nursing home causalities for confirmation.
