Jan. 6 riot caused $1.5 million in damage to Capitol — and U.S. prosecutors want defendants to pay

U.S. prosecutors this week put a price tag on damage to the U.S. Capitol from the Jan. 6 breach — $1.5 million so far — and for the first time are asking defendants to cover some of the bill in plea offers, prosecutors and defense lawyers said.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Washington cited the damage estimate Wednesday in court and in plea papers filed in the case of Paul Hodgkins, 38. The Tampa crane operator pleaded guilty to one felony count of obstructing an official proceeding of Congress and faces sentencing July 19 in Washington.

“Your client acknowledges that the riot that occurred on January 6, 2021, caused as of May 17, 2021, approximately $1,495,326.55 damage to the United States Capitol,” stated a plea agreement letter sent by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mona Sedky and signed by Hodgkins and his attorney in May.

The government funding of "gain of function" for COVID-19 by people in it like Fauci cost the people of the planet trillions of dollars and oceans of blood.

It should be repaid by the government agents who nurtured and enabled this disaster.

Seems reasonable. Let us make sure we have the correct defendants.

approximately $1,495,326.55 damage to the United States Capitol

I'm sure some private sector door and window company could fix it for a few hundred thousand. Now, what about the damages caused by the BLM rioters?

I’d love to see an itemization of those costs.

I’m sure we have at least one multi-millionaire Patriot who could stroke a check to cover this.

What about the billions of dollars in damages caused by BLM and Antifa though?

YEP. And to get plea agreements, the government has to scare the crap out of defendants by over-charging them, even if threatening to charge them with stuff they know they didnt do and exaggerating anytning they did do, maybe undue pressure on defense attnys, and drive up the costs of defense in any way they can. Whatever it takes to make them cave.

In 2011, protesters took over the Michigan state Capitol for a month. The damages and costs incurred were 8 million dollars.

Ammunition was found scattered outside the Capitol. Doors were removed they out the bldg. they occupied every office of the state Capitol.

“ In court, Renlund said the estimate included $6 million to repair damaged marble inside the Capitol, $1 million for damage outside and $500,000 for costs to inspect the damage.”
That does not include the payroll for extra policing and factoring other damages.

Do you know what occurred during this ‘insurrection’ ? Parades took place when they refused to leave.

The first million was the HazMat team cleaning up the biohazard created by an as-yet-nameless Capitol Police Officer.

[ Wow - that’s a lot of money for a few broken windows and cleaning up Ashli Babbit’s blood from the Capitol floor. ]

No, that is just about right given how much the govt. wastes money...

Yeah, right. Maybe some drywall here and there and a couple of coats of paint and varnish.

A million five for a small amount of damage?

Doesn’t the government have insurance?
