Dem Sen. Sinema: The Filibuster Is "A Tool That Protects The Democracy Of Our Nation"

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) made her support for the Senate filibuster clear while touring the U.S. border facilities in Arizona with colleague Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) on Tuesday.

"I've long been a proponent of the filibuster because it is a tool that protects the democracy of our nation,” Sinema told reporters at a press event.

"Rather than allowing our country to ricochet wildly every two to four years back and forth between parties."

"To those who say that we must make a choice between the filibuster and 'X,' I say, this is a false choice," she said.

"The reality is that when you have a system that is not working effectively — and I would think that most would agree that the Senate is not a particularly well-oiled machine, right? The way to fix that is to fix your behavior, not to eliminate the rules or change the rules, but to change the behavior," Sinema said.

Sinema is far far better than we could have hoped for.

She’s just scared she won’t win reelection if she acts fully like the marxist she is.

Well, for a Democrat, it’s nice to hear her talk like that.

Is this a signal or message to Chuck Schumer, to drop the idea of changing filibuster rules, to force the Biden agenda through????

I thought Joe Manchin said something similar too??

She’s a Arizona Democrat in the traditional mold. I hope she doesn’t cave. There will be massive pressure on her.

Dunno ‘bout that, but the filibuster protects the minority from the tyranny of the majority.
IMHO, the ‘Filibuster’ should be a default - all legislation should require a 2/3s majority to pass...

She is and I am surprised a little.

She seems more moderate than far-leftist.

"Rather than allowing our country to ricochet wildly every two to four years back and forth between parties."

Which is the truth, even though the Dems go to the farthest extremes and the GOP cowers behind the curtains.

I wonder how much legislation would ever pass, if it required a 2/3 vote?

But the new ad I have been seeing is something people love to hear and that is stop the lobbyists and big corporations and time for citizens to take back the country or some such thing.

She’s not scared of us. She has more to fear in the moonbat primary. Kelly won the other seat and he’s no moderate.

Sinema actually seems to have some conviction.

But Manchin? Any breeze can change his “thoughts and opinions.”

She’s been drifting to independent and free-thinker all this while. I’ve been, and am now, guardedly suspicious, guardedly optimistic about her ability to remain tethered to the Real World and Common Sense.

This quote from her is right on the money.

They gave Manchin’s wife a six figure income job with the Appalachian Regional Commission.

I’m sure that was a sort of bribe to get his support for the Biden agenda.

Yes, just in general, the less legislation and control over our lives, the better.

I once heard someone say, in jest, or maybe not, that the major expansion of federal power and control started in the 1930s, and that this was the time when air conditioning was installed in the Capitol building. And that it was this time when Congress started meeting year round.

Washington is known for hot humid summers, and apparently Congress used to take long summer vacations to beat the heat.

I agree entirely.
They should remove the AC from the Capitol and from the Congressional office buildings!
