Of course. Give everyone a check and close down country so people receive unemployment, it’s going to raise government share. Luckily I think the 1400 will be the last check to all Americans so the share will go back to pre pandemic levels. Considering how much each person has given the government, I don’t think a refund of 3200 (total for all stimulus) is terrible. I just don’t understand the shift in thinking around here. It used to be lower taxes was awesome and homeschooling was a positive. But the thinking is now pay more taxes and get those kids back to the government indoctrination centers. Certainly a 180 in conservative beliefs.
I would imagine the 47% Mittens talked about get a lot more than 27%. I get $22k in SSI. Then there’s the $10k mortgage deduction. The deduction is welfare and SSI? The cottonheads would bite off the heads of anyone who would take it away.

Some of the long term trend is due to demographics. The boomers are collecting Social Security.....but it is a startling figure.

My SSI check is NOT "from the government"!!!
It is a SMALL return of SSI TAXES I paid over a 45 year career.....AND IT STILL IS TAXED AGAIN!!!

Guilty here. I’m a federal employee and so is one of my grown sons.
Nearly 70% of immigrants and illegals are on some for of government handouts, some to the tune of nearly $45,000 a year.
Well with baby boomers retiring and half the rest of the country not working, where is the t’s base for these handouts? It’s going to get ugly out there.

Goes to show you Gov’t is too big and the overall pay and benefits is excessive. Congress is incapable of fairly negotiating pay and benefits on the publics behalf.
it should be restored to the historical 7 percent of income. then examine it to see what the states to dish out instead.
the fed govt is not constitutionally authorized to dish out welfare cheques (if there are to be welfare payments, it is the states that are the general welfare sovereigns NOT the fed govt!)......and the feds are just damned awful at administering them!

Now here we go again. The force is trying to instill another dose of fear into us. Let not your heart be troubled. We all know that we can all make a darn good living just doing each others laundry. So find a partner and get to the task.
I did a quick check and about 35% of my income goes to the government before I count sales tax, gasoline tax, car registration, excise taxes and dozens of other taxes my labor goes to directly or indirectly.
