Washington (AFP) - US President Joe Biden's attorney general nominee pledged Saturday to depoliticize the Justice Department and to vigorously prosecute the Donald Trump supporters who attacked the US Capitol.
In testimony prepared for his confirmation hearing on Monday and Tuesday, federal appeals court judge Merrick Garland indicated he wants to remove the taint of political interference left on the department by Trump.
He also promised to create clear guidelines for FBI investigations, amid allegations that the agency strayed deeply into politics in investigating Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016 and then Trump in 2017-2018.
In an apparent reference to the Black Lives Matter movement, Garland also said that enforcing equal justice for people of color remains an incomplete and "urgent" task, 150 years after the Justice Department was founded following the Civil War.
Minorities still face discrimination in housing, education and the jobs market, and suffer more than others the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and climate change, Garland said in his statement.
Garland, who must be confirmed by the evenly split Senate, is expected this time to gain enough support from Republicans for his nomination to go through.

Every Democrat Attorney General operates the DOJ as a political attack dog. Every Republican AG says gravely “the Department is looking into the situation and the assigned Prosecutor will determine if an investigation or charges are warranted”. If Barr hadn’t been a Deep State operative there was enough video and affidavit to launch a massive investigation into voter fraud, cut plea deals with the small fish and make them sellout the higher ups. He simply turned his back on America and walked away to receive his reward from his masters. After the perpetrators, Barr is the person most responsible for the fraud. The SCOTUS would have a much harder time ignoring the fraud or Barr’s DOJ had done its job. Treasonous gas bag.
Has anybody seen a list of those that actually broke the law that day? I heard there were 200 indictments. Who are these people and what are their political/group affiliations? Who did they NOT charge? What happened to that Antifa/BLM guy who pretended he was a journo and was directing people? Why did that Capitol LEO shoot that woman? This crap is disturbing and we really need to dig out the details and get to the truth. Somehow....or we are sunk.

Agree. IT’s even worse really. Barr turned his back after lecturing us about the “Rule of law”, etc. He was entirely a lie and fraudster.
