the guy who was illegally selling individual cigarettes died, because he resisted arrest.
Or he died as a result of too many laws. Selling onesies is a crime? In America.


That law was enacted by his elected representatives. One does not change the law by fighting the police on the street. That would reject Rule of Law with Might-Makes-Right.

It’s just not a very good example. It trivializes the behavior of those who are involved in violent, life-threatening activities that cause a police response in the first place.

The author is on point from beginning to end, tho.

Some laws are so inane it’s simply mind boggling, and this one is a perfect example. It’s the kind of law that is routinely ignored by virtually all rational people. Of course it’s also the kind of law that affords those with a little authority the opportunity to push people around. Spit!
