Amazon employees call for company to cut ties with Parler after deadly U.S. Capitol riot

A group of Amazon corporate employees is calling on the company to stop providing cloud services to Parler, a social media app popular with Trump supporters.

In a tweet on Saturday, employee advocacy group Amazon Employees for Climate Justice said Amazon Web Services should “deny Parler services until it removes posts inciting violence, including at the Presidential inauguration.” AWS provides cloud services to Parler that host its website.

Representatives from Amazon and Parler didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Pressure has been mounting for Amazon to stop hosting Parler on AWS after other tech giants took action against the social media app in the wake of the deadly U.S. Capitol riot earlier this week. Google on Friday removed Parler from its app store for Android users, Google Play Store. BuzzFeed News reported on Friday that Apple has threatened to pull Parler from its App Store.

Parler, which launched in 2018, has emerged as a popular platform for President Trump’s allies in the last year by billing itself as a free speech alternative to mainstream social media services like Twitter and Facebook.

A Kubernetes cluster runs just as well on Digital Ocean - or other providers overseas if it comes to that.

450 miles of border wall. 3 SC justices. Hundreds of Federal judges. Thank you, President Trump.

Rule #1 - always make your cloud infrastructure agnostic to the provider. It's not hard - and makes it so a site could be back and running easily within 4 hours on a different provider.

Amazon employees be warned. I will not buy a single item via Amazon. Today I deleted my Facebook and Twitter accounts. I’m on Parler, MeWe, Rumble and Telegram.

I’ve relied upon Amazon a lot in the past year; and overall we’ve spent thousands upon thousands of dollars with them, over the past 10 years. In my experience, they’ve always been efficient and customer-friendly.

Tonight may be my very last order. I always argued that many small American businesses sell on Amazon, and we have to think about that when dissing Amazon.

But I can very well go directly to those small businesses.

If Amazon has a hand in locking US out, we can very well do the same to them. At least that’s one right that we still have.

It’s a big and expensive operation to move services from AWS cloud.

GAB solved the issue by building their own services at a big price. But they know no one can play games and pull the plug on them.

Poor Parley, if Amazon pulls the plug they are kaput.

I’m on Parler, MeWe, Rumble and Telegram.

Just be aware Telegram is of Russian origin and the Russian govt supposedly had a backdoor to a device with Telegram. 'Signal' app is safer.
