Louisiana Rep.-elect Luke Letlow, who died while battling COVID-19, suffered a heart attack following a procedure, a hospital official said.
The 41-year-old was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport when he died Tuesday, the Monroe News-Star reported.
LSU Health Shreveport Chancellor G.E. Ghali confirmed Letlow underwent an operation related to the virus and later went into cardiac arrest.
“It’s devastating to our entire team,” Ghali told the paper, adding that he “had no underlying conditions.”
The Republican had first announced that he tested positive for the virus Dec. 18 and said he was quarantining at his Richland Parish home.
But his health began to deteriorate and on Dec. 19, he was admitted to St. Francis Medical Center, and then eventually transferred to Ochsner LSU Health.
Letlow is survived by his wife, Julia Barnhill Letlow, in addition to his two children, 3-year-old Jeremiah and 11-month-old Jacqueline, the paper reported.
“The family appreciates the numerous prayers and support over the past days but asks for privacy during this difficult and unexpected time,” Letlow’s spokesman Andrew Bautsch said in a statement to the Monroe News-Star.
Letlow was set to be sworn in to Congress on Sunday after he won the Pelican State’s 5th District seat in a Dec. 5 runoff race.

You are still in error.
It likely did. It depends what the procedure was. If it was to place him on ecmo it was entirely due to covid. If it was a result of the hypercoag state covid was a large contributing factor. Either way it would be listed in the death certificate

It could have been any one of many minor procedures to assist the medical team in managing the breathing and ventilator support. Almost anything is loosely called an “operation” these days. If a patient is thought to be needing ventilator support for an extended period, an artificial airway called a tracheostomy is temporarily created in the throat region to allow better management of the airway and ventilator and close access to the lungs directly. Improves patient outcomes in most cases.

John Bel Edwards and Edwin Edwards are not related, despite sharing a last name. He won’t appoint a replacement. The seat will be filled by a special election, and it’s a safe GOP district.

It is what I get for too quick a trip to google...
Because there are now so many “operations” that they can do to fight Covid 19... Are they worried that telling people what the operation was trying to accomplish because some might be skeptical that surgery can cure a viral infection.
Your kind correction should cure me of making jumps in logic to unfounded conclusions.

No, there’ll be a special election. Only Senators can be replaced under similar circumstances, not representatives.
My nephew and his wife recovered from the disease. Mild fever and body aches. They recovered at home.
Similarly, our sheriff and his wife recovered at home. About the same.
As is almost everyone I know who has caught the virus.
So what happened with Luke.
He was diagnosed and was recovering at home.
Then he went to the first hospital
They then transferred him to the ICU at the second hospital.
And then he needed a ‘surgery’ ?!?
Just what surgeries are they doing for SARS-CoV-19?

Sounds strange an operation was performed on someone with respiratory problems, right?

For that matter, and admittedly i haven’t researched, has anyone heard of anyone dying from covid outside of a medical setting?
