They prey on the elderly/people with dementia. A friend of mine has fallen twice for it.
I do not answer my phone unless I know the person on the other end.
Those ratbastards in India got my email address several years ago and kept sending me emails that I needed to fix virus problems on my desktop.
They had my email and house phone number and would send mail and make calls all day and night long.
For weeks I kept emailing them back and telling them I didn’t need their help and I would figure it out.
I finally answered one of their phone calls and the bastard representing himself (again) as a Microsoft employee told me I would have to give him my passwords and a bank card number in order to clean up my computer.
Told the idiot it was to late for my computer, it was beyond repair.
He kept insisting that they could help if I would just supply the needed information.
I told him that I doubted very much that there was anyway he could repair a 45 caliber hole in the hard drive..
There was a LOOOOOONG silence over the phone until he asked me exactly what I meant.
Told him I took my computer outside and shot it with my Ruger Blackhawk 45 caliber pistol, that would be the last time a computer ever pissed me off.
Never got another email or phone call from those folks!
And, no; I didn’t shoot my damned computer, I called my son and he walked me through cleaning up the messes I had made on it.
