OMG. I never knew about him (just read his Wiki entry). Veddy intevesting.
“There’s just something eye-catching about silver coins.”
Interestingly, when the first Lincoln cents were issued in 1909, blacks (they were colored or negros back then) held on to what they called ‘emancipation money’.
We can't know how Nixon would have handled the Berlin crisis or Indochina...but probably better than Kennedy. And he might not have done such a poor job with the Bay of Pigs invasion. I suppose Nixon would have supported the effort to land a man on the moon--the space race was considered an important part of the Cold War--but he might not have recklessly committed to getting the astronauts there and back by 1969.
JFK — pfffft!
Moreover, for many Democrats, Jack Kennedy was their first political love. His assassination meant that his popularity remained unsullied and retained a force amplified by later disappointments and compromises. Shrewdly, the family, the family foundation, the Democratic Party, and the news media have collaborated over decades to keep the legend of Jack Kennedy fresh.
Is PJ a never-Trumper?

“A great read..... What explains the enduring live affair with Kennedy?!”
It really is still a live affair by the media. JFK was and is still a media lie. They can’t bring themselves to tell the truth.
“Kennedys have been a pox on America.”
A friend of mine spent 27 years in a Cuban prison because the Kennedys refused to honor their promise to the Cuban patriots to give air support. He asked me why there was such a fascination with the Kennedys.
I told him the following, paraphrased:
“You are assuming that ALL Americans feel that way about the Kennedys. There are some of us who do not. It is my own personal opinion that ALL of the Kennedys who have already died should be exhumed, charged, arrested, tried, found guilty of murder, and put on rocket ships which are bound to never return to this planet so that they cannot dirty the planet any more than they already have.”
He cried and said that he was unaware that others felt as he did. I then told him that he should not believe anything which the MSM reports.
JFK — pfffft!
I am so grateful that nothing like that happened to Obama. Living out the rest of my life with his being proclaimed a saint...well, it just doesn’t bear thinking about.
First I’d ever heard of that person or that....relationship.🤮
“Before the announcement over the school’s PA system, a kid shouted, ‘Kennedy’s been shot’ and there were some cheers over it.”
I guess I was in 10th grade, and the cheers erupted when the news came over the PA system that he’d been shot. The announcement referenced a “tragedy”. Some guy said, “The only tragedy is that he isn’t dead.” Well, he was dead but we didn’t know it yet.
It got showed again and again and again. It was pounded into you that you must remember where you were "when you heard".
It was drilled into school children that the Nazi sympathizer Boozer clan was American Royalty.
Major propaganda was employed about how wonderful and beloved the guy who had to cheat his way into office and was not going to be reelected was. If you remembered things differently about President Good Hair then you were made to feel alone. There was no internet to connect with like minded people, no talk radio to point out that the guy we were suppose to be morning left thousands of our allies to die, gave the communists a base right off our shore, nearly caused a Nuclear war, gave up a vital defense in Europe and was dragging us into a land war in Asia.
No, the anti-American press controlled the narrative and so the country was mostly brainwashed.
And it persists to this day.
I believe I also have a couple of 60’s Kennedy halves, as well, and more wheatbacks, Indianheads, and Buffaloes than I could count, going back to the early teens or before. Plenty of Liberty and Washington quarters, Mercury dimes, some older stuff too, either in coin binders or loose (depending on year/grade). I’ve also picked up silver notes, $2 bills, and foreign coins/currency for the curio value. Harmless hobby.
“It’s funny how it’s a moment frozen in time for those of us old enough to remember. I was just settling down in a physiology class. Some girls who had a radio in their gym locker room (remember dressing for gym?) were saying that Kennedy had been shot. After class had begun, and I still can remember we were looking microscope slides of the three types of muscle, when the announcement was made Kennedy had died and we were to have a moment of silence and prayer for ‘President Johnson’ which at the time sounded so strange.
A girl next to me started crying and then the teacher said, OK, let’s get back to work. The question we all were asking was “Will they let us out of school?” They didn’t.
I was in geometry class.
First words anyone said was from the guy next to me :well, they finally got him”.
Left me speechless.
I recall it was just before Thanksgiving. We went to Grandpa’s farm for the holiday and it was all over the news (”the news” being CBS, NBC, and ABC). Grandpa kept mumbling something like, “Look at those fools, snaking him all over the place.”
It’s also too late to fall in love with Sharon Tate.
Of course. I guess Commentary wanted an Irishman instead of a Podhoretz to do the article.
Since I’m on a Sammy Davis Jr kick today, Sammy campaigned for JFK and JFK wouldn’t let him come onstage with him for fear of “offending his constituents”.
If I had no antipathy for JFK before today, I sure do now.
/God bless Sammy!
