Wallace's aunt, who identified herself only as Sandy, told Fox News that her nephew had recently gotten married and had several children, ages 5, 7 and 8.
"He was turning his life around," she said. "They could have talked to him and calmed him down because I'm quite sure that's part of their training."
Rodney Everett, Wallace's uncle, said the officers could have used other tactics to de-escalate the situation.

Drat it all, don’t those police know to just wing the guy? You know, like shoot him in the arm and just wound him?
I used to work for a pretty (in our county) powerful guy. He “knew people” who could approve me concealing a weapon in a place where very few people. Oh, at the time we discussed me getting a gun and a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) I had neither. Hubby had plenty, but all too big for me...and I only shot for fun.
So the boss mentions it to me, I say “Can’t I just aim to hurt them?” and the boss says “no. You think about it real good, and come see me when you know you could shoot to STOP...yes, that means kill someone.”
It took me 3 months and lots of talking to others to finally say “Ok, I would shoot to kill if I had to.”
lBy then I had a couple of trusty new friends, Mssrs.Smith & Wesson, lots of range time, and a CPL.
Boss man took me to the Big Guy, who asked same question as boss had at first. I told him yes and why. He said, “Good...you’ll protect me also when you are in my room, right? “Yessir!!
Moral of the story- Cops only have a microsecond to stop the bad guy. A knife ten feet away is fatal. How about instead of asking why the cops have to kill the bad guys instead we ask the family “Did you really think you could call the cops, you know, the guys and girls with guns, and expect them to show up and play social worker against a disturbed individual with a knife? Really? Have you as a family ever thought about DOING SOMETHING with your disturbed family member?”
You win the thread!! I think I'm crushin' on ya!
We also know that sometimes 10 feet is too close to a mentally unstable person.
See the below discussion of defense against knives in a professional setting.
Hard to de-escalate someone charging you brandishing a knife.
You will be safer by making that decision before any incident requiring you to act in Human defense.
Well done by all, and remember to practice.
this is the problem ... the family has now won the "killed by cop lottery" and suddenly he's an angel, turning his life around and cuddly dad of ( 3 .. 4 ...5) who never did nobody wrong ...
No doubt drugs were part of this incident. We know that mace, tasers and clubs don’t work on drug crazed maniacs.
Like George Floyd case drugs can make any person unstoppable.
