The economic shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic that already led Walt Disney to lay off nearly 30,000 employees who worked in the theme park business may soon affect one of the companys other ventures: ESPN.
The Worldwide Leader could lay off hundreds of employees in the coming weeks, sources told Front Office Sports. On the high end, 700 employees could be gone. On the low end, 300.
While the majority of layoffs are expected to affect employees who work behind the camera, some on-air talents are also expected to be let go, especially if they are working with an expiring contract.
A desire to cut costs, potentially tens of millions of dollars in salary, ahead of upcoming rights negotiations with the NFL, NHL and NBA over the next few years could be a contributing factor as to why ESPN was willing to let Keith Olbermann out of his contract to launch a nightly YouTube show about politics.
Let's hope the bids for those drop quite a bit. I want signs saying "Will dribble for food".
ESPRC.
The on-air idiots wont be hurt by this. It will be the behind the scenes, who often dontbsupport this.
Probably all White males.
Behind the scenes people with zero input to the SJW BS.
Bristol, CT I presume. ESPN got so greedy over the past ten years and I won’t shed a tear. Their close to monopoly on cable and of sports made the chase the almighty $.
See ya !
Anaheim is a ghost town - the Hotels that line Disneyland are empty - the massive Anaheim Convention Center has been empty since March.
Now Goof Ball Gavin Newsom has the Trade Shows scheduled in Anaheim, for the 1st quarter of 2021 so worried that they are either canceling or moving the events out of California.
People who came in for trade shows would also visit Disneyland. Anaheim is dead.
Ice? Blasphemy.
Die roundball, die.
LMAO

The inability to understand the true root of the problem means the problem will be perpetuated.
When I used to watch the NFL, the on air people were as much a distraction as occasionally entertaining. I NEVER tuned in to watch a game for insightful or stupid comments.
Disney must be projecting serious losses with its recent, but idle studio acquisition.
I wish no ill-will upon the employees, but the leadership of that corporation is vile and should be dismissed.
I remember watching SportsCenter with Kenny Mayne and Stuart Scott years ago. It was cool. Didn’t know ESPN was still a thing.
However, the athletes and announcers conspired to politicize sports and make it unwatchable.
I hope this along with the destruction of Star Wars, the failure of Mulan, the meh of Galaxy's Edge, the continued decline of ABC, and the coming destruction of Marvel will mean the end of Disney altogether.
Before too long ESPN will be reduced yo carrying bowling, beach volleyball & ping pong. Just like the old days, huh?
The need to do what MTV did and start having reality shows where the on-air “talent” get into hissy fights and rumor wars.
Nice.
