Trump says he’s calling off stimulus negotiations with Democrats ‘until after the election’

President Donald Trump said Tuesday he has told his administration’s negotiators to end coronavirus stimulus talks with Democrats until after the Nov. 3 election.

The declaration, if the White House follows through on it, would halt an ongoing push to send trillions of dollars more in relief to Americans as the outbreak rampages through the U.S. and the economy struggles to recover from virus-related shutdowns. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke for an hour about a relief package on Monday and planned to talkagain Tuesday.

“I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business,” Trump tweeted on Tuesday.

The president added that he has asked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to “focus full time” on confirming Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.

Investors punished stocks in response to Trump’s tweets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell more than 300 points, about 1.1%, in the minutes following the announcement.

They deliberately left off the first part of Trump’s Twitter post ...

Nancy Pelosi is asking for $2.4 Trillion Dollars to bailout poorly run, high crime, Democrat States, money that is in no way related to COVID-19. We made a very generous offer of $1.6 Trillion Dollars and, as usual, she is not negotiating in good faith.

We’re 28 days out from the election.

I mean, even if they strike a deal today, that money is never going to get out into people’s hands before Election Day.

Trump knows this.

No, but it does seem to have spread to you.

Nancy’s minions are depending on *some* stimulus getting through, some were depending on it for re-election in not a small way, and she’d promised them all something. Now she’s screwed.

The market will be back tomorrow or the next day (if not this afternoon before closing). I trade options a bit and often make money when the market fails to understand how Trump negotiates.

Hot potato has been removed from Pelosi’s lap. Obviously Trump and the Republicans have some sort of plan B

You maybe should look at post 42. If the hot potato has been removed, it is only to replace it with hot coals.

I see and understand your point but I also see that being the new talking point of Nancy Pelosi and the democrat party. It’s probably what they were hoping would happen so they could start with their ads that have likely been produced weeks if not months ago anticipating this.

Remember, the democrats were also hoping that Trump would go into states uninvited to stop the democrat riots and we would see another “Kent University” on the front pages of the papers. Well, that one failed. Trump did not bite.

Tranquila, senor-pres Trump knows what Nancy and the rest of the rats want that money for-to “stimulate” their vote buying operations-if the money isn’t there to pay their lazyass base to vote, that won’t happen and that base won’t come out..

The Democrats are determined to bail out the blue states. Funny how reporters never ask the question as to how much they are planning to spend.

Dont blame him ONE BIT..they have been “Negotiating” for weeks..its gone NO WHERE..Pelosi wants to bail out Dem cities, Trump wants money ONLY for Covid..the whole thing is pointless and Trump is right, just move on its going no where anyway..after the election whoever controls everything can come up with their own plan..who knows maybe Trump knows Republicans will win back the House

Good point!

Also, the better Biden looks in the fake polls this close to the election the less confident the stock market is going to feel about the future of the US economy. So, I’m not ready to blame 100% of today’s market on the lack of stimulus negotiations.

I think it was the right thing. I’m sure he knew more about the negotiations and knew they were going nowhere, so try to hang that on Nancy.

His timing could be better. Once again, this will step all over the story about Brennan briefing Obama that Hillary started the Russian Collusion nonsense to take heat off her email disaster. Now that story gets buried. (I know, MSM wouldn’t report anyways...)

Then again, a month away. Not much time to space things out. Will be a great ride and sweet victory!
