I remember Tom Clancy, who is one of my favs, say that it’ll be different when you have a target on your back and it’s not alive, but it has to kill you as the only objective.
This was during the rise of GPS guided, and I really think that’s in the end what turned the tide in the middle east, even though unfortunately not fully. They knew they had eyes in the skies from space to local and all their friends were being blown up with no notice. You can’t get much more demoralizing.
“Wonder weapons?” My God, I don’t see the wonder in them. Killing without heroics. Nothing is glorified? Nothing is reaffirmed? No heroes, no cowards, no troops, no generals. Only those who are left alive and those who are left... dead. I’m glad I won’t live to see it.
