RUSSIA is planning to equip military helicopters with swarms of terrifying suicide drones which can be sent on pre-programmed missions, raising the prospect of a new era of remotely waged warfare, sources within Vladimir Putin's country have claimed.

The helicopter gunshop Mi-28NM is being fitted with drones which Russia will be able to fire from missile launch tubes, an insider told state news agency Tass. The source said: "Built-in instruments transmit information from the helicopter's weapons control system to the payload, be it controlled detonation missiles, guided missiles, mini-drones or suicide drone

Perhaps this is why there are numerous reports of ultra-sophisticated laser weaponry on the USA assembly line.

Revelation 9

1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.

6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.

8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.

9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.

10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.

11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

Yep....I recall easily when Obama did that. Putin hated Obama and OBama didn't like Putin because Putin wasn't swallowing his song and dance nor his arrogance.

Isn’t a suicide drone just a missile?

When I saw the headline I thought the same thing. Or how about ‘suicide bombs’?

“Wonder weapons?” My God, I don’t see the wonder in them. Killing without heroics. Nothing is glorified? Nothing is reaffirmed? No heroes, no cowards, no troops, no generals. Only those who are left alive and those who are left... dead. I’m glad I won’t live to see it.

-General George Patton

I hope so, laser weapons and even render the Chinese anti-ship MRBM’s useless. No need to hunt the warhead, clear the air and hit it at light speed. Terminal maneuvering won’t matter.

I’m surprised laser for this stuff has taken as long as it has, it seems like the ultimate defense weapon.

How many Havoc helicopters would Russia need for a million suicide drones?

If that’s all the made—suicide drones and Havoc helicopters— they’d never make anything else.

The Soviets are gone.

The remaining Russians aren’t ten feet tall. Not much over 5 feet 9 inches, really.

Our F35 fighters are already equipped to manage drone swarms. See https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/02/11/drone-swarms-led-f-35-jets-will-confuse-overwhelm-britains-enemies/

It needs a ton of electrical power, especially so if they have to be deadly over several kilometers, and through smoky air, clouds and just water vapor.

More than a fighter could carry—think cargo plane size electric plant.

Yeah, I remember needing a whole 747 of chemical laser fuel to do that program. However, the electric and power needs have come down a lot with efficiency in the beam. I really think the national ignition facility was more about perfecting laser tech than fuel.

With IR, they could just land on high points and watch for anything warm to move. Then they pop up, shoot one bullet into it and wait again. One drone could kill 100 people over several weeks until its fuel runs out and then self-destruct. That is how I’d make them.

It’s not so much to listen to what Ivan says but more to what Ivan does. He will talk a great deal, from inside the Kremlin but out in the hinterland of the former “Workers Paradise’’ there is no love for Ivan and Ivan knows it. The Khazaks and the rest of that polygot Muslim rabble aren’t going to die for Putin.

Hellfire missiles have a flight time measured in seconds and limited retarget ability. A drone by definition implies flight time measured in minutes if not hours and the innate ability to not only retarget but also seek out new targets autonomously. Our own DARPA has already created tested and fielded insect sized drones a few of them even being powered by nuclear batteries giving air independence as well as extreme lifetimes. The ability to engage human sized targets with insect sized drones exists. The day is not far away when a drone of fighter jet size will drop from high altitude thousands of insect sized drones that are all programmed to seek out and kamikaze into and human not emitting a coded IFF signal on a battlefield. The current treaty on chemical and biological weapons prohibits the using of chemical toxins as the payload on an insect sized drone which have a few grams of payload capacity. There’s toxins that have milligram LD100 when delivered dermal or subdermal. It’s irrelevant as 2 grams of compound 4 or RDX detonated against the cranium or chest cavity of a human would also be nearly 100 % unsurviable. That is the future of warfare. Moving up to bird sized drones allows enough payload to engage light duty vehicles and pinpoint infrastructure such as power transformers, fuel tanks, communication gear act. Think sparrow sized drones in the thousands from a b52 sized bomber. Also in the biomimic range would be cat and dog sized drones for on the ground or underground hunting with payload ranges of a few kilograms they could carry multiple bird sized drones and hundreds of insect sized killer drones. All of this technology exists the limits have been communication bandwith and power supply miniaturization. High density lithium ion batteries changed the game, nuclear betavoltic cells, and MEMS hydrocarbon based generators along with MEMS based solid oxide fuel cells which can run off J8/5 have been tested and are at a TRL of 7 or above right now.

“What’s next, sharks with frickin’ lasers attached to their heads?”

The Israelis have already done that. Just ask the Arabs.

That is the worst part I guess. They could land, wait, and seek any human forms that forage out and kill.

We have to hope in the next 20 years or so the leaders of this world won’t turn AI/drones at us. No far they haven’t with nuclear weapons, but who knows?

Hey, I was just answering your question why it hasn’t been done yet.

The answer is, they’re working on it. 22 years ago when I retired from the USAF, they were still working out how they would fly the experimental YAL-1/E-4 747.

They’ve made progress, but there are a lot of engineering challenges.

I do think we’re really, really close.

But just don’t get me started on that promised when I was a kid flying car and rocket backpack!
