The Nation, a storied left-wing magazine, pondered the possibility of secession in an interview published Tuesday morning.
The idea has been circulating on the left over the past few weeks, as Democrats ponder the possibility of President Donald Trump being re-elected. Though many mainstream media polls show former Vice President Joe Biden with a lead, the polls have been wrong before — and Trump is running a confident, energetic campaign, while Biden is barely leaving his house.
The interview, “Should the United States Stay United?“, conducted by Jessica Suriano with Richard Kreitner, author of Break It Up: Secession, Division, and the Secret History of America’s Imperfect Union, focuses on the idea that secession need not be tarnished by slavery. Abolitionists, Kreitner argues, also considered seceding from the Union — and progressives should consider it today:
JESSICA SURIANO: Why did you think it was important in this book to address all of these other separatist movements that have happened in the past and across the political spectrum?
RICKY KREITNER: Of course everybody’s heard about the Confederacy and slavery, and it started my historical research, but that’s not really where the book came from. It came from this late-Obama-era moment where the thought occurred to me just based on things I’d been reading: What if the United States broke apart? Would that be such a bad thing? Is it possible that the progressive policies and programs that I wanted to see put into place might be easier to enact in a smaller entity than the United States, with its 330 million people and the need to always convince people with very different attitudes and interests? Give Conservatives one state. For instance, Northern Californa from Sacramento north to the southern part of Oregone. From the Pacific Ocean to the Idaho and Nevada border.

I totally support this idea, and please start with NYC. It’s a human cesspool.
The interior part of these states ain’t going anywhere; you can’t tell me that eastern Washington, 90 percent of Oregon and inland California will join some leftwing kooks. This would get rid of the Dem House majority, possible Senate majority, Hollywood and the feces-covered streets of San Francisco so there is some merit in it.
If there is going to be a split, make them leave US. They hate our flag, our statue, our heroes, our Constitution and our history. Make them leave us.
But, if we get them to leave, don’t expect them to leave us alone. They will become like those abortion-minded people who take ships off the coasts of countries with serious restrictions on abortion.
They want union when they rule, secession when they don’t.
The left has never let consistency get in the way of their path to power.
In the real world, the map is not the territory.
There are many hard-core conservatives in states ruled by leftists (as I raise my hand) and there are many hard corp lefties (particularly in the urban areas) of states ruled by conservatives.
The divide is mostly urban and inner suburban vs outer suburban and rural in most states.
It is just a mess.
Great!! That’d be the best way to restore America.
I actually think this would be best for everyone. It is no longer possible to live peaceably with the left. It’s time for a peaceful divorce, before we need to go down the road to a bloody one.
The only rule ... they can’t come back.

Just how long would a democrat state last. They are part of the US now and they can barely make it.
All would be California in a very short time.
I don’t know where they reside in the political spectrum, but New York should most definitely be broken into two states. The state is dominated by New York City, which is dragging down everywhere else.
Upstate NY is a fantastic area filled with great folks who unfortunately carry the burden of “the city” on their shoulders. It’s time to cut the cesspool loose.
Perhaps a good solution is to divide the country by counties rather than states. Then the vast swaths of red America wouldn’t have to go anywhere, after the blue cities are excised. There will be only a relatively few purple counties that will have to do something. Maybe that’s where the embassies will go, and their residents would be dual citizens.
