Antifa is a totally insane “movement”. They are useful idiots, except for the few hard core Communist who run it.
I had close contact for 5-6 years with a few well connected Kurds in Northern Syria, they had a lot of foreign fighter volunteers that helped them. Some were prior military and did help them defeat ISIS with out help. And some Antifa elements were there. My friends there said they were crazy and they separated them from areas that they could get people killed.
The N Syrian Kurds are an unusual mixture. They are more local and more practical than most Lefties. Most of the YPG/YPJ are really good people and fierce soldiers. I liked the ones I got to know very much. The SDF (which was an outgrowth of the mixture that the YPG put together) has Syriac Christian units (they were in the YPG/YPJ from the beginning). There are Arab elements in the SDF too. They do have quiet relationships with Israel and Saudi Arabia, because of Turkey’s persecution of them. Turkey is committed to dominating the region and stifles any thought of freedom and self determination.
We still have a presence in N. Syria, but it is very small now. And quiet.
I was in the Army at Fort Riley in the late 60’s. After the MLK riots we were trained on riot control. My last official exercise before I got out was being a rioter. We had flour bombs that we made up to harass the troops. Our Battalion commander came out to address the troops and told them that they were to keep their emotions under control during this exercise. One of us rioters hit him with a flour bomb and for about 10 seconds he blew up and then realized how he was reacting after his speech. 5 days left saved me from a world of hurt.
Yeah. The hardcore combat engineer types worry me. It didn’t take a lot of Weather Underground members to raise a lot of hell. Now they have communication systems that any military would have been envious of 50 years ago. The SJW rabble can be dangerous in a mob situation. In the’80s I lived with some of the earnest do-gooder hippies that hung out in the ground floor of the EMU at U of O. That place must be a real snake-pit, now. One of the guys did some prison time for kicking in windows at the Fed Building in Eugene, after the Rodney King verdicts. Last I knew, he was in Portland.

I watched last night’s protest. Mostly crowd control, and a lot of taunting of the police. One of the shrill harpies heckling the cops actually made a funny.... Q: “Why did the police get to the protest early?” A: “To beat the crowd.”
