Berkeley in northern California will ban the sale of junk food from supermarket checkout displays -- becoming the first US city to do so, according to local media.

The city council unanimously passed a bill this week to promote healthier eating, by prohibiting products with over 5 grams of added sugar or 250mg of sodium from checkout aisles.

Drinks high in sugar and artificial sweeteners will also be restricted.

"The healthy checkout ordinance is essential for community health, especially in the time of COVID-19," said councilmember Kate Harrison.

"What is good for Berkeley customers is also good for our businesses."

Not good enough, it should be a FELONY for ANY Elected Official or Public Employee of Berkeley to even Possess products with these dangerous chemicals in them.

Besides the huge liberty problems with this, is this even where the obese get most of their calories? My hunch is that it’s the large containers of snacks, candy, and soda in the regular aisles that are the more likely culprits.

Is there anything professional affirmative-action government bureaucrats don’t know?

Remember: we, Trump and the Republican Party are the fascists in their eyes.

It is funny watching liberals I know who ask why a smart guy like me is a Republican (implying that Republicans are supposed to be mouth-breathing yokels in their minds). I tell them that the modern Democrat Party is by far the more authoritarian party.

It’s worse than it looks. Each serving has 540 mg of sodium and there are 6 servings in the can. So yes, they’ll forbid grocers from placing these in the checkout areas. Still, I can’t remember ever seeing cans of garbanzo beans being marketed as impulse-buy items anyway. Usually it’s candy bars and beef jerky and such.

Stupid legislators, stupid city “leaders”! How about banning dumpster diving, that can’t be healthy. Plenty of things that could be banned, but leave the private marketplace alone! People should be free to decide what food to consume. Leave my treats alone!

Because people can’t just go to the actual junk food aisles and get it there.

Idiots.

And when that was mandated, they all burned their fields down, unlike in real America, where they would just quietly go ahead and grow the damned soybeans.
