She may have believed the media’s crap about cops being trigger-happy stone killers and bet that he would go out in a hail of bullets. Insurance will presumably cover the medical expenses. And, if it comes to that, indigents get free medical care. Not risk-free, but perhaps good enough to roll the dice.
Again, maybe I’m too cynical. What I’ve discovered with many news items, however, is that I’ve not been cynical enough.
