FRESNO, Calif. -- A rescue operation to airlift scores of people trapped by the Creek Fire at Lake Edison and China Peak was unsuccessful, authorities say.

The Fresno Fire Department says up to 50 people were waiting be rescued at the lake area and that there may be multiple casualties.

However, the heavy smoke conditions made it impossible for the Chinook aircraft piloted by military personnel to approach them.

I'm texting with a friend down in CA right now and his plan is to buy a mountain cabin! I mentioned fire danger too. You'd think people would be a little more cautious right now.

If the “compound” has enough acres and access to water in quantity, it can likely be made Fire Safe.

I’m not sure you can even get fire insurance.

Just how much do you propose be cut?

Because whatever you leave will burn eventually.

This is CA.

Before the arrival of white men here as much as 4 million acres a year would burn. 2 million have burned this year so far.

It’s normal.

You’d need scuba gear, the air will be super heated. Not survivable depending on vegetation and density.

I believe the area around Lake Edison, and the people there, are relatively safe. Here’s a map of the area and the extent of the fire.

https://www.google.com/maps/@37.3322446,-119.5347109,10.25z/data=!4m3!15m2!1m1!1s%2Fg%2F11hn80zrc7

Lake Edison is the lake about 15 miles northwest of Huntington Lake/Lakeshore. And I believe the fire is moving north. The people are trapped at Lake Edison and need to be airlifted because the road (Kaiser Pass Road) has been cut-off by the fire at Lakeshore.

Bass Lake is to the west/northwest of Lakeshore, and is preparing to evacuate. There are lots of cabins and resorts around it.

I’m sure Governor Nuisance will find a way to blame Trump for it. I’m also sure the media will not challenge him on this.

I was actually in that area last summer. Thornberry I think is where all those ranchettes are between coursegold and Oakhurst. (My car had mechanical difficulties when I was near Mammoth Pool Reservoir and I ended up stuck in Oakhurst for a couple days.)

I heard that Bass Lake area was preparing to evacuate, and Thornberry would be close to that (see the map linked in my post a few comments up to see it’s relationship to the fire).

Actually I meant to say the Thornberry is between Coursegold and Bass Lake.
