Pinterest, a social-sharing site popular for pinning recipes, home inspiration and more, has canceled its large San Francisco office lease.

The lease was for 88 Bluxome, a high-rise complex to-be-constructed near Pinterest's existing San Francisco headquarters. The company cited a shift to work-from-home due to the coronavirus pandemic in its decision. Pinterest will keep its current city offices, however.

The termination fee for the 490,000-square-foot office space is $89.5 million, Bloomberg reports.

The change in working life may also trigger a change in Bay Area demographics. In an anonymous survey of 4,400 tech workers, two-thirds of respondents said they would consider leaving the region permanently if allowed to work from home.

How the hell do they have a monopoly on all memes that were formerly in the wild and open to everyone?

They killed tumblr. The huge money that leftwing venture capitalist pump in can keep these companies running a long time. They just lob a few mil at it, it’s nothing to these guys.

Well, I wouldn’t go THAT far!

My wife was shopping yesterday at the Ski Shack for new goggles.

Thank god, this leaves more room on the sidewalks where the “homeless” can shit, and better yet, they will now have a bit of more privacy!

Corporations were disciplining at the workplace, now they will control at home working from home?

We went from a society of discipline with schools and hospitals to now of control with social media and tracking software.

Now corps will bully people and fire them if they do not let them spy on family life?

They decided to remove the sex blogs of Tumblr and that will hurt. Probably will be reinstated or someone is going to fill the social vacuum

Tax base will be gone. City will try to trap people with tax auctions investments. But one thing is for sure, the center will be deserted of business and turn like detroit if residency is deterred and utilities/taxes too high.

Expect management to take a serious hit as well.

It was clear in March that we would be using this historical inflection point to drive technology adoption and business process transformation. The only questions were how wide and how deep.

Your fourth impact reminds me of a keynote speech at an IT symposium decades ago. Alan Paller spoke on "executive information systems".

Paller said something like "When you implement an executive information system, get rid of all layers of management whose job it is to pass information from below to above and from above to below." That line has stayed with me all these years as I watch it realized through various tech evolutions and revolutions.

I’m glad you’re so confident. I’d say just the opposite, beautiful rural/suburban areas will become Democrat hell holes within a few years.

Two friends, both small business owners are now out of business for good. One a boutique that saw significant traffic on Saturdays especially, is now just done. Life long dreams of being a successful business owner are blown away.

Really is a shame.

Why does anyone in a government position care...they never get laid off, they always get paid, they get great benefits. Fire 50% of these government “workers” immediately. Give them a taste of their own medicine. They don’t care about business owners who lose everything because of stupid government “mandates”. Cold-hearted losers.

I suggest they convert to tax auction sales hunting. Plenty of property is going to go delinquent.
