I get you.
Maybe we disagree on the power of the media- or, more accurately, on the media and Dems’ perception of that power.

We’ll see soon what they do with the ‘legal route’.

We don’t disagree

They just can’t bury an issue they started

“It’s for the children “

“Great. I solved that...”

Trump’s willingness to take on the media is how I knew from early on ( he wasn’t my early choice in 2016) that he could be a winner. And a great help to the country.

And he’s been all that!
Wouldn’t surprise me if he comes out even more on top with this issue LOL!

9 Aug: Daily Mail: IAN BIRRELL: Why Sweden, pilloried by the whole world for refusing to lock down - with schools staying open and no face mask laws - may be having the last laugh as experts say Stockholm is close to achieving herd immunity
•Swedish health experts say struggle against pandemic is ‘marathon not a sprint’
•The country has one of the highest death rates from coronavirus in the world
•Anders Tegnell’s refusal to impose lockdown is held up by critics as a warning
•But is it possible the Scandinavian nation made the right call in the long-term?
Yet Sweden is seeing a sustained drop in cases, with some experts even suggesting it may be close to herd immunity in the capital Stockholm.
The number of deaths, new cases and patients in intensive care has fallen dramatically.
On one key measure – percentage change in new confirmed cases over the past fortnight relative to the previous 14 days – Sweden is down more than a third.

This contrasts with sharp rises in neighbouring Denmark, Finland and Norway, along with countries such as Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.

Meanwhile, the latest data suggests Sweden is suffering less severe economic trauma than most major European nations, while it has, almost uniquely among Western countries, kept schools open...
Prof Ekstrom added that evidence from elsewhere indicated that lockdowns were unsustainable. ‘You go crazy after a while,’ she said...

It fell 8.6 per cent over the second quarter compared with a 12 per cent fall across the Eurozone. Analysts fear the UK economy may shrink 20 per cent over this period.
‘It’s grim by any normal standards but compared with other parts of Europe they have done well,’ said David Oxley, senior Europe analyst at Capital Economics. Sweden’s big exporters are seeing profits decline smaller than anticipated while there are fewer bankruptcies than feared...

‘If a business can stay open, it’s clearly better than closing,’ said Esbjorn Lundevall, an analyst at Scandinavian bank SEB.
He added that keeping schools open provided a significant economic boost...

See?

I won't list em all but, Newsome is in a real pinch.

He can't NOT take the $400 and doesn't really have choice but to pony up $50 bucks for $200 bringing the totals back to pre-August levels.

The children will never survive his calousness and neither will he if he wants 2024

LOL

Probably not very germane to this post.
Denmark and Brazil are, indeed, interesting examples of the minimal approach. Someday we’ll be able to evaluate them.

But Cuomo is widely admired in polls despite having the greatest covid deaths by far- for his policies on covid!
That’s what the media can do.

Let me bring out this...

“The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power.” – Malcolm X

Does he have an Aunt Pelosi? Fienstein, Barbara Boxer, Zoe Lofgren, Garcetti, Willie Brown, Hollywood?

Who has more Grapenut eating Billionaires?

Who has a bigger network financially and logistically?

Cuomo is going to bow out, give his delegates to Newsome and take a few cush jobs on the board of several corporations and law firms.

Face it. Newsome is a better speaker and handsome

Cuomo only has a titty ring...

If they don’t have enough lipstick for all of the Dem pigs, then the media will just triage the use of what they have.

So you want people who were unemployed, with no reason or fault of their own, to get effed. No wonder the Republican Party has a severe image problem. The MSM has picked up on the whole “I’ve got mine, eff y’all attitude”.

states would pay 25% of the cost of the new unemployment benefit. The federal government, which had paid for the entire $600 benefit, would pay the rest.

I'm not sure how Trump's order has a legal basis to require states to pay anything.

How hard can it be to reprogram a system to pay out $400 payments to a group of people who had been getting $600?

The programming has to include the accounting, (charges to the Feds, new charges to the states), accounting for future overpayments, date limitations, etc. Not an overnight change.

“Not sure of your point.”

This is a short-term measure.

“Has someone calculated that the available funds will all be spent in October?”

Only if things are improving.

If states weren’t pathetic incompetencies, that wouldn’t be the case and yes, it would be an overnight change.

It’s standing FEMA assistance law. States pay 25%, the Feds pay 75%; however, the 25% burden was suspended for Katrina and a few other disasters. In fact, the Senate already introduced legislation to suspend the 25% burden - with democrats co-Introducing.

Not that difficult - my wife works for local govt, and has to submit FEMA invoices all the time.

Basically, states request the assistance and when authorized begin making $400 payments to eligible state residents. Each payment the state makes, has a date - then bill FEMA for 75% ($300) for all payments between Aug 1 - Dec 6, 2020

I’m guessing the total national debt is closer to $30 trillion.

Not including the many trillions in unfunded Social Security and Medicare liabilities going forward.

As long as interest rates are pretty much at zero it won’t kill us. But that can’t last forever. At some point the music will stop and the punch bowl will be taken away. Party over...

Here in California, when you're dealing with the state unemployment agency, it's very hard indeed to reprogram the system or even to get it to work in the first place. About a million unemployed residents of the state have yet to see a penny of their benefits, and it's been five months of gridlock and incredible incompetence.

The computer system and website is using code that was obsolete years ago, and estimates are that only 5% of phone calls actually get through to a live person, who may or may not know how to respond. The governor called them out last week and appointed a "strike force" to go over their heads and get things moving. An incredible mess.

Yes, decades old systems have meant long delays here in CT also.

No excuse for that—other than, likely, job protection for tech dinosaurs in gov plus diversion of funds to other, useless and corruptly overpriced tech “investments”.
