They’re vehicles that carry lots of stuff — that’s all they are. Also, sometimes, a means for some men to signal their manhood to the ladies. But mainly, carry lots of stuff.
I was considering purchasing one in the previous decade. Right away, my friend I was talking to warned me that everybody would want me to carry stuff in it for them.
Well, yeah, pickup trucks are great for taking women home. In the passenger seat, I mean, not the truck bed, unless she’s into that sort of thing.
My BIL has a Raptor which, in TN, is a chick magnet. Of course, guys love it, too. He gets notes on the windshield like, “Your truck is f***ing AWESOME.”
Yep, I enjoyed the video of the PU running over the cycle some Antifa mob left in the road. I think it might be a good idea to get skid plates.
Now that Pick-em UP trucks cost as much as a small house there should be less of them on the road, but there isn’t.
40-60K for a P/U is getting ridiculous.
Remember when pickups were an economical purchase? Now some of these trucks are like nearly half the price of a small home in some places.
“What about those diesel versions that can belch out thick, coal like smoke at will.”
It’s called ‘Rollin’ Coal’..lol.
They put something on the engine so it can puke up smog at will.
I have a pickup. It is black. It has the largest engine made.
Yeah, I am a liberal crushin’ rayciss.
Men who drive pickups are sensible, can-do, realistic, get-er done types. Patriots.
And who doesn't love girls who drive pick-ups.;-)
For those of us who live and WORK ‘outside the metro wire’, and you know, get our hands and boots dirty, shop at places like Tractor Supply (not just Lowes/ Home Depot), or maybe go out to the farm/ large garden plot in the slop of a rutted dirt road ... you get the idea ... we need the utility and ruggedness of a pickup truck.
Also, frankly, my pickup is the most comfortable vehicle we own ( from Porsche Cayman S, to 2 plug-in hybrids to the truck ) for long road trips. Quiet, spacious, comfortable, great visibility and 22 MPG at 66 mph. AND it’ll tow the boat/ jet skis that they probably don’t want us to have either.
They don’t stop to think that maybe people WANT and NEED what a pickup truck delivers.
I will admit to sneering a bit at the tricked out ‘mall Jeeps’ and cowboy Cadillacs that have ALL the gear, but have never gotten mud on the tires or chassis.
These people can buzz off.
The ones you have to haul in the back you don’t want to take home.
Here in the Houston area they are the most prevalent mode of transportation. I drive one myself.
Ya know when they made those movies, some custom vehicle shop(s) got a GREAT contract ...
Around 75K right?
I’m sure they were busy for quite a while.
“Around 75K right?”
I’m not sure. We don’t discuss $$, but it easily could’ve cost that much. (To me, it just looks like a truck, that’s how ignorant I am about these things.)
Dan Neil is “Pajama Boy,” right?
Academics must not read the news. Automakers (domestic, at least) are dropping sedans from their products, and going with Pickups, SUVs and Crossovers. They ARE switching to electric and hybrids for power. I think the writer needed a topic, saw a deadline approaching, and needed to overcome writer’s block. So he resurrected a pet peeve of his own; or he pulled one out of a bodily orifice.
Sorry, but pickups have gotten WAY too massive over the past few years — dinosaur level. I thought of replacing my 2010 Ford Ranger with a new Ranger, but that’s grown into a “midsize,” which is about the size of a standard F-150 from 10 years ago.
