The Friday night lights will be dark and high school stadiums quiet across Illinois this fall because Gov. J.B. Pritzker imposed new COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions on sports for the upcoming school year.
The new rules are stricter than in neighboring states.
After discussion with the governor’s office over the guidelines, the Illinois High School Association decided to move higher-risk sports such as football, volleyball and soccer to the spring. Golf, tennis, cross country and swimming will begin on schedule in compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines Pritzker announced July 29.
Nationally, Illinois and five other states were the only ones to move football to 2021. Most Midwestern states are making no changes – including Illinois’ next-door neighbors, except two that are delaying football.

Pritzker categorized each sport under a risk level and introduced phases for competition. Under the plan, sports such as golf, running and baseball were categorized as low risk; basketball, soccer and volleyball as medium risk; and football, lacrosse and competitive cheer were listed as high risk.

Since a significant number of Power 5 football players can’t read at an eighth-grade level, maybe they shouldn’t get scholarships anyway. Give those scholarships to a kid that’s good at math and science instead.
Consider the demographics typical of the respective sports and it will make perfect sense.
Even Nero gave them bread and circuses.

This year’s high school Seniors have been $crewed with this year’s shelter and cover b$. They are like a lost generation re athlete and academic scholarships.
Next year’s seniors might be in even a worse situation.
Baseball has had breakouts. Marlins and St Louis Cardinals.

Baseball is not low risk.
So spring football? Conditioning sessions outdoor in February in northern Illinois? *The players would normally be there already, since the season would start around Labor Day.( Those of us who actually live in Illinois all year realize that won't work. But a visitor such as Pritzker would not be aware. And his closest advisors probably don't know any Illinois HS football players either, so they want to start next year in the middle of the next flu season. What could possibly go wrong?

I just love how bureaucrats at all levels of government have suddenly become medical experts. So the esteemed “Dr.” Pritzker must be correct in his assessment.
It’s truly amazing! Thank God we have the bureaucrats to shepherd us through this national trauma.

And that’s just one of the tragedies. Those senior athletes will miss an entire year of focused training, with their fellow teammates. Getting together at a park to play from time to time won’t cut it.
There are perhaps some really talented athletes out there who will never be able to play pro sports because of this.

These kids will become known as Generation C.
A couple of months ago the local high school grads were driving around with “2020 Class of COVID” drawn on their windows.
The University of Texas had 2019 athletic revenue of 224 million dollars, highest in the nation. UCLA received 931 million dollars in research grants and contracts revenue.

I would say the academic side of the university does pretty well at generating revenue.
They’re missing out on a lot more than that. They are being taught by our media/govt to be afraid to be close to other kids, to avoid contact, avoid sports, stay home. Get ready for a whole wave of psychotic episodes after doing nothing but playing video games for two years.
They are creating a whole generation of social misfits and mental issues. We know how that ends up!
Fortunately I’m in a red state in a rural area, the first week they let school out early, my graduating grandson was asked if he could drive a truck, so he’s been making $20/hr all summer. My daughter has a pool, so the younger girls are all at her house since the pools are closed also.
