> John Lewis was civil to Donald Trump? <

He was not. Lewis boycotted Trump’s inauguration back in January of 2017. That was a low-class and rude thing to do on Lewis’ part.

But I think the old adage “do not do what your enemy wants you to do” applies here. Lewis, for all his faults, was a civil rights icon. The Democrats would love to have Trump appear to slight him. Therefore, Trump should have gone, payed his respects briefly, and then left.

Do not do what the Democrats want you to do.

I kind of agree with that. Respect the rank, not the man. John Lewis was a horrible politician but he did earn his stripes back in the day. Trump should privately ask the family when it would be convenient to attend so as not to disrupt the family’s peace, and then should just do it. Get in, get out.

Nonsense! Had Trump gone he would have been called a hypocrite because according to the liberals Trump is a RACIST.

Let the VP go, it is all Lewis is worthy of and let’s not forget he didn’t attend the presidents inauguration.

Thats what I was thinking - he should go briefly.

It would help him with the black people and annoy the Dems.

It would be kind of tempting to say “Just making sure he’s dead :D “ if it was me ... lol

Ah yes, let’s do the old Julius Caesar routine:

Julius Caesar, Act III, Scene II

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones;

I agree with Dacula, however, that attending is a no-win situation for President Trump.

The security is already going to be pretty heavy but having the president there would create more problems. Probably demonstrators too.

I’m watching Bill Clinton give some remarks at Lewis’ service. He actually looks pretty good; not as rail-thin as he did a couple of years ago.

But I’m about to turn it off because I still can’t stand this. Listening to Bill pontificate with that thing that politicians do, with their hand, balling it up and raising it for emphasis. I swear that must be in the class “Speech Making 101” when people decide to run for office.

I am rewinding because I want to see when Clinton is called up, whether or not Hillary is there.
