In Minneapolis, Armed Residents Set Up Patrols Amid Calls to Defund the Police. The city council approves its first permanent cuts to the police budget; crime has surged in the past two months

Minneapolis residents in some areas still recovering from rioting and unrest are forming community watch and security groups, some bearing firearms, to fight a surge of crime in the wake of the George Floyd killing in May. At least one neighborhood has put up barricades to keep away outsiders.

The moves come as the city council on Friday approved its first permanent cuts to the police budget, amid calls to defund the department and generally lower tax revenue due to the economic strain caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The $193 million police budget will be cut by $10 million, including making permanent some temporary spending measures—including a hiring freeze—put in place in June. Around $1 million from the police budget is being shifted to a program called Cure Violence that tries to prevent things such as retaliatory shootings through community engagement.

The council had initially backed the idea of supporting the community watch groups with money for things like T-shirts, walkie-talkies and training, but that didn’t end up in the final budget.

“We’re not trying to create an armed force to replace the police department,” said Graham Faulkner, an aide to council member Alondra Cano, who had proposed shifting funds to support the community watch groups. “We’re trying to support the groups that are out there.”

The council earlier approved a proposal that could end up on the November ballot to replace the police department with a new department of community safety and violence prevention next May. Many details of the proposed new agency remain to be worked out, such as whether it would have an armed criminal-justice component.

Police say crime has surged in the months since Mr. Floyd’s May 25 killing

And the insurance companies will be painted as villains, destroying the inner cities. That’s how Marxist strategy works.

“Minneapolis residents in some areas still recovering from rioting and unrest are forming community watch and security groups...”

Coming to a neighborhood near you...or maybe even in your neighborhood.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms...”

Neighborhood militias are now back in style.

The problem will be when someone defends their home or business and the leftist legal system goes after them while leaving the rioters untouched.

“Americans need to communicate with friends/family. Arm up.”

If you are not arm up, you need to arm up before it is two late. I have been arm up for years, I am now buying arms and ammo to hold for Family members who have not smell the coffee yet.

A fight is coming our way and we need to be prepared.

“I think part of the problem is that communist controlled citied”

They let the rioters burn there cities down then request rebuilding funds that are enough to rebuild the city and pay off their pass debts.

Enough is Enough let them live in their burnt out cities.

Enough to take out the council’s private security and turn them into lamppost decorations?

Do you speak of a ΔV as a percent or in $$'s?

As a percentage, I would guess Seattle or Portland.

Why did you omit Minneapolis?

“When there are no police, every crime carries the death penalty.”

It's stark isn't it? If for instance a car thief is caught, and there are no police, the citizens have no one to turn the thief over to. There will be no jail, and no court. The only way to make sure the thief does not steal any more cars is to make sure the thief is dead.

I know people will not vote Dem again. Starting to count them.

I see this also but I also see the sickening psychosis of voters who vote for hell and think that's a better alternative. I live in a state where the typical voter is an idiot and votes the "D" no matter what. This is not to infer a sexist sentiment but the emotional woman voting bloc horrifies me.

Redeploy those police officers assigned to the personal protection details of the city council members and mayor and his staff. As supporters of the violence, the pols don’t need protection.

Enough is Enough let them live in their burnt out cities.

Not good enough.

Recent examples show that they will block major roadways and come for you as you go to work.

We must push them back. And remove from office the political authorities who keep supporting the rioters.

I will infer a sexist sentiment for you then.

Women in this State turn out to vote at 25% higher rates than men, according to the Secretary of State website. A majority of the women who vote are registered Democrats. They consistently vote for Socialism, according to various estimates.

Single women vote Democrat at estimated rates of 85%-90%. Married women vote Democrat at estimated rates of about 48%-55%.

This is disastrous for men, who are still expected to pay for everything.
