(CNN)A seeming lack of considerable outrage from Black people over recent high-profile, anti-Semitic controversies stems from the desire to not be accused of "undermining and undercutting" the current racial justice movement, journalist Jemele Hill said.
"There are people who give no care about the Jewish culture, who are using DeSean Jackson, Stephen Jackson and some of the entertainers that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar mentioned as a way to undermine and try to eat at the credibility of the people who are out there fighting for justice," Hill, a staff writer at The Atlantic told CNN's Don Lemon on Thursday.
Hill was responding to an op-ed written by Abdul-Jabbar that called out Hollywood and the sports world for what he said has been a lack of outrage over recent anti-Semitic remarks from members of the Black community, including Jackson, a wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Hill said that the NBA hall of famer was not wrong in calling out a lack of outrage over anti-Semitism, but argued that the conversation is nuanced.
"We're in this moment, this very thoughtful and critical moment where we're having conversations about race, and because you have Black people who are at the center of these controversies, people worry that, OK, if I come out and I criticize Nick Cannon, that's going to be perceived as if I'm being against Black people, who in this moment are fighting for something really important," Hill said.

I'm sure the fact that blacks are the most antisemitic racial/ethnic group since the ADL began doing surveys 30 years ago has nothing to do with it. About 4 times the level of whites. Also high levels among immigrants, but the numbers go down in the second generation
"the people who are out there fighting for justice," are undermining their own credibility by conflating their message with Marxists and their tactics.
Nick Cannon is a bigot who espoused the scientific claim that white people are genetically inferior and more bestial and animalistic.
His racist beliefs are nuanced.
So it’s ok to be racist if you’re “in the moment”
DeSean Jackson simply exposed what we all knew. He is guilty of pointing out the elephant in the living room. The problem is how to punish him without risking a pushback from the other anti-Semites in the league. IOW make the problem go away. Kareem didn’t help by bringing it back up and I am sure he is hearing about it.
“There are people who give no care about the Jewish culture” ... well we got us a mind reader here fellas..
, We are? The only thing going on right now is a bunch contrived racial BS and preaching to whites about how evil they are.
Stick it in your ear.
I had thought he was just a pilot (and only a co-pilot at that).
People keep talking about how DeSean Jackson used a quote falsely attributed to Hitler. To me, the real story is how is anybody stupid enough to quote Hitler in defense of a position? Even if Hitler had said what Jackson said he said, why quote it? Jackson probably has about a 3rd grade education level and knows nothing about Hitler. Why do we care what these idiots think? LeBron is probably equally stupid. Kareem in his op-ed came off like a wise professor compared to most of these idiotic athletes.
That’s been largely passed over. One would quote Hitler because of both the truth of the quote, and a lack of negative feeling toward Hitler. Fake or valid quote, no difference.
IF he’d been white and said that he’d have to be in hiding.
“...the conversation is nuanced.”
