With positive coronavirus cases on the rise in Wisconsin, state residents are potentially at risk of being added to Chicago's emergency travel order list, according to comments from Mayor Lori Lightfoot at a news conference on Tuesday.
Chicago issued an emergency travel order two weeks ago mirroring a policy adopted in several Northeastern states in late June. The order requires anyone traveling to or returning from the city from one of now 17 states to self-isolate for 14 days upon their arrival.
On Tuesday, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut added Wisconsin along with Ohio and Minnesota to their lists of states whose travelers are subject to quarantine requirements, which currently includes 22 states.
Now, Lightfoot says Chicago is watching those places closely, too.
"I don't want to speculate about what might happen, but we're, suffice it to say, we're paying very close attention everywhere around us, and particularly states in the Midwest that border Illinois and Chicago," Lightfoot said on Tuesday, according to NBC Chicago.
Chicago reviews and modifies its list every Tuesday based on new data, and any changes to the list take effect three days later, on the following Friday. The order will remain in effect until further notice.
As of Wednesday, Wisconsin falls between Chicago's and New York's metrics, with a seven-day rolling average of 14 new cases daily per 100,000 Wisconsinites. The total number of coronavirus cases stands at 38,727, according to the state health department.
Wisconsin experienced a record single-day increase Tuesday with 964 new cases, and there were 821 new confirmed cases Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Lightfoot warned that Chicago itself is "dangerously close" to reversing course on its reopening plans, even though its "metrics are tracking better than the rest of the country."

You can pretty much get tested on any street corner in Wisconsin, now. Deaths continue to decline, but let's just leave that FACT out of the discussion, shall we? ;).
Hey Mayor, I am on a lifetime quarantine of visiting Crapcago.
Did she make up her last name herself? Lightfoot ? Give me a break she looks like one of those grey aliens that abduct people . I bet shes not even human . How could a human be so ugly looking ?
I think you will find that republican and swing states will all have surges reported in cases. Democrats in the health industry will see to that. Illinois had over a thousand new cases for the past several days. So, Wisconsin which has not had nearly the cases nor the deaths as Illinois has had, does not have much to worry about. Accept maybe the governor of Illinois family which comes to Wisconsin every weekend.
Can they legally interfere with interstate commerce?
STOP TESTING!
The number of new cases would plummet.
Obama did it.
Can't think of any place with a ban that I have any desire to travel to.
Whitmer and Lightfoot sounds like a Clint Eastwood movie.
You and I have the same thought. Please keep me from entering Chicago NY LA and Frisco. And others like Seattle. The list is broadening.
Oh, can we ban FIBs in return? :)
Well, add the interstate commerce clause to the list of casualties of the COVID-19 government hysteria.
Chicago has a Mayor ?
“Can they legally interfere with interstate commerce?”
The plan to get the states working against and fighting with each other has come together seamlessly, Comrade! ;)
Don’t be mean to Baby Groot! ;)
With all of the stories about cars with Illinois license plates parking at Wisconsin polling places so the drivers and passengers can do same-day registration and vote, Wisconsin should be looking at the possibility of voter fraud. Just a thought.
Fine by me.
Someone who escaped the Chicago Hellhole would actually return voluntarily????????
Ohhh no! Im sure people are soooo nervous at the thought of not being able to visit the great paradise known as Chicago
Im pretty sure Wisconsin is okay with that.
